📢📖 Amplifying Circular Storytelling: Check out the finalists of the Circular Stories Programme from Circular Cities Asia ! In their Circular Stories Programme, PREVENT member Circular Cities Asia partnered with talent industry experts to provide young environmental changemakers with a platform to tell compelling stories about circular economy innovations in their local communities. Youth aged 18-25 were able to embark on an experimental learning journey. In a two-part online course, they discovered the principles of the circular economy and mastered the art of storytelling to amplify local voices of change. From a pool of incredible ideas, Circular Cities Asia selected five finalists. Each story pitch represents a diverse range of mediums, including blogs, documentaries, storybooks, and investigative articles. They highlight various aspects of the circular economy and sustainability. ✨ Check them out: 🟡 Unwrapping Sustainability: The Circular Economy with Natural Food Packaging, article by Noelle Cubacub 🟡 Protecting Tagubanhan Island, Documentary by Lady Kyla Balibagoso BULIlit’s Path to Purpose, storybook by Noelle Cubacub 🟡 All about “u” in Sustainability, blog post by Thao Vu, Giang Tran, Duong Hoang, Thy Tran 🟡 How a Barangay Initiative in Iloilo Is Reducing and Recycling Waste, feature article published in Esquire Philippines, by Kyla Presmei Depakakibo 🟡 How Plush Toys Weave Opportunities for the Women of Negros Oriental, feature article published in Esquire Philippines, by Joshua Mendoza Intrigued? ➡️ Find the full stories here: https://lnkd.in/eRwnxQjU

The PREVENT Waste Alliance serves as an international think and do tank for circular economy practitioners. As a platform for knowledge exchange and international cooperation, it brings together organisations from the private sector, academia, civil society and public institutions. PREVENT's mission is to advance the circular economy in low- and middle-income countries by minimising waste, eliminating pollutants, and maximising the reuse of resources in the economy worldwide. The working groups of the PREVENT Waste Alliance currently focus on three material streams: plastics, electrical and electronic equipment and batteries, and organic waste. In addition, PREVENT members are working on a range of cross-cutting issues such as digitalisation, behaviour change and financing mechanisms for the circular economy. The goal is to connect different perspectives along global value chains, share knowledge, develop tools and positions, and pilot scalable solutions for the circular economy. The PREVENT Waste Alliance currently has more than 500 member organisations from over 50 countries. It was launched in 2019 by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The holidays can be a prime opportunity to clean out your closet - but have you considered the environmental impact of throwing away that sweater? Or the new one you’ve bought to replace it? 👕 The fashion industry contributes an estimated 4% to global greenhouse gas emissions 🏭 The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) approach makes producers responsible for a product at the end of its life. Our 🆕 working paper looks at how this approach could help mitigate the textile sector’s environmental impact. Some key findings: ➡️ Between 2010 and 2022, the reported export weight of used clothing by OECD - OCDE Member countries has increased by 59%. ➡️ Under current policies, plastic waste generated from synthetic textiles is projected to more than double by 2060. ➡️ EPR schemes can enable re-use and recycling by supporting separate waste collection, while transferring the costs from governments to producers. ➡️ France is the first OECD Member country with a fully implemented national policy on clothing, but several more countries are beginning to design and implement new schemes. 🌱 How can we ensure that climate strategies prioritise product longevity and sustainable consumption to reduce global GHG emissions? PREVENT member GIZ is tackling that question in their new NDC guidance! 📖 The paper, written by the GIZ global programme 'Go Circular' outlines how practitioners and decision makers can identify and integrate Circular Economy measures into climate strategies. 🔄 The Guidance includes 27 Circular Activity Sheets that directly translate Circular Economy measures into practical climate reporting. Through these and other elements, it complements the Toolbox on Building Circularity into NDCs, issued last year by UNEP, UNDP and the UNFCCC secretariat. Get an exclusive look into the Guidance on November 21st at #COP29! Find more information on the event and read the guidance in the post below! ⬇️ #sustainabilitymatters #NDC #climatechange
#COP29 Let's talk about resources and circular economy strategies to mitigate climate change! ♻️ 45 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions are associated with product manufacturing. How can we ensure that product design and processes prioritise longevity and sustainability? Our global programme ‘Go Circular’ is joining the Benelux-Eib Pavilion to discuss how circular economy strategies can be integrated into national climate plans. 📅 21st November ⏰ 01:30 - 03:00 PM (GMT +4, Baku time) 📍Location on site: Blue Zone, BENELUX-EIB Pavilion 🔴Join via Livestream: https://lnkd.in/g5ZPDsgh 🎙️Panelists: Alana Craigen, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Patrick Büker, GIZ Lisa Da Silva, IFC - International Finance Corporation With many countries in the process of updating their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), integrating Circular Economy approaches can boost greenhouse gas mitigation and accelerate national climate efforts. For this event, we are launching our new Guidance on Increasing NDC Ambitions through Circular Action. The paper offers a practical guide on identifying and prioritising circular NDC measures and supports integrating existing approaches, such as the UN Toolbox on Building Circularity into NDCs. 27 activity sheets describe circular activities from a climate reporting perspective, helping with defining, tracking, and reporting circular climate impacts. 📖Read the guidance below and learn more about circular economy strategies in NDCs on November 21st!
