Together for a circular economy

Info

The PREVENT Waste Alliance serves as an international think and do tank for circular economy practitioners. As a platform for knowledge exchange and international cooperation, it brings together organisations from the private sector, academia, civil society and public institutions. PREVENT's mission is to advance the circular economy in low- and middle-income countries by minimising waste, eliminating pollutants, and maximising the reuse of resources in the economy worldwide. The working groups of the PREVENT Waste Alliance currently focus on three material streams: plastics, electrical and electronic equipment and batteries, and organic waste. In addition, PREVENT members are working on a range of cross-cutting issues such as digitalisation, behaviour change and financing mechanisms for the circular economy. The goal is to connect different perspectives along global value chains, share knowledge, develop tools and positions, and pilot scalable solutions for the circular economy. The PREVENT Waste Alliance currently has more than 500 member organisations from over 50 countries. It was launched in 2019 by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

🌍✨ It's been one year since we launched the Global Action Partnership for Extended Producer Responsibility! Let's take a look at some GAP for EPR Highlights from 2024! The GAP for EPR is an international partnership established between Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, OECD - OCDE, UN Environment Programme and WWF. It also receives circular economy support from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and is hosted by PREVENT. 🤝 With a goal of jointly advancing EPR, the GAP for EPR took important steps to build the three pillars necessary to achieve just that: community, library, and the helpdesk. 1️⃣ Building a growing community: with webinars on policy measures, EPR structures, and specialised areas such as construction, and member-only discussions on upstream measures such as reuse. 2️⃣ Making knowledge accessible: with over 50 peer-reviewed EPR publications as well as events at INC-5, IFAT, and the World Circular Economy Forum which stimulated a discussion on the potential of EPR and its chances to support a Just Transition. 3️⃣ Supporting EPR journeys across the globe: with the GAP for EPR Helpdesk pilots in Malaysia and Argentina as well as various other tailored consultation sessions and workshops to pave the way towards EPR implementation! Find more highlights in the slide deck below and in the article linked in the replies. Join the GAP for EPR in 2025 in advancing Extended Producer Responsibility across the globe! #extendedproducerresponsibility #epr #sustainabilitymatters #circulareconomy
