Precision. Performance. Progress. 🔬 Last week, we were honored with the 2025 Prism Awards in the Lasers category, and we’d like to highlight the technology that made it possible. Narrower laser linewidth improves coherence, boosting LiDAR detection range and enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio of the detected signal, resulting in better sensitivity for LiDAR imaging. Here’s how: 🔹 Minimal Power Loss – The lower the energy loss, the stronger the LiDAR signal. Our laser achieves ultra-low coupling losses (≤ 2 dB) when connecting to the photonic integrated circuit (PIC), ensuring more power reaches the system for better performance. 🔹 Stronger Signal for Longer Range – To detect objects at greater distances, a laser must output a strong, stable signal. Our laser delivers up to 10 dBm on-chip optical power (and up to 4 dBm in fiber), ensuring reliable detection over long distances. 🔹 Fast, High-Resolution Scanning – LiDAR systems need to scan quickly to create detailed, real-time images of the environment. Our laser features a wide frequency sweep of up to 6.25 GHz at an ultra-fast 100 THz/s chirp rate, enabling high-speed, high-resolution depth perception. 🔹 Exceptional Precision – In LiDAR, signal stability is everything. Our laser's ultra-narrow linewidth (below 10 kHz) ensures minimal signal drift and maximum accuracy, allowing for more precise distance measurements and reducing errors. 🔹 Sharper, Cleaner Data – A clearer signal means more reliable LiDAR data. With a higher Side Mode Suppression Ratio (SMSR) of up to 55.3 dB, this new laser improves signal purity and prevents unwanted noise from distorting the LiDAR image. That’s just a peek at our laser progress—stay tuned for what’s next! 💡 Glossary of Terms 📌 dB (decibel): Measures signal strength. Lower dB means less energy wasted. 📌 dBm (decibel-milliwatts): Measures optical power output. Higher dBm means a stronger signal. 📌 GHz (gigahertz): Measures frequency range. A wider GHz sweep improves LiDAR resolution. 📌 THz/s (terahertz per second): Measures chirp rate. A higher THz/s enables faster LiDAR scanning. 📌 kHz (kilohertz): Measures linewidth. A lower kHz ensures a more stable, precise signal. 📌 Side Mode Suppression Ratio (SMSR): Indicates signal purity. A higher SMSR improves signal quality and prevents unwanted noise from distorting the LiDAR image.

An Inside Look at What Makes Scantinel Photonics 🌍 Yes, our work is grounded in serious science and innovation. But even as we stay laser-focused (cheesy pun absolutely intended) on pushing boundaries in our field, we know it's not all about work. Along the way, we never lose sight of the little moments that make the journey worthwhile. We’re a collection of stories, backgrounds, and experiences, coming together to create something bigger than ourselves. Celebrating these differences—our unique perspectives and the people behind the work—comes naturally to us. It’s not something we try to force. It’s simply us: a team that values individuality, connection, and community, all coming together to create something special. Here’s a glimpse into the moments that make Scantinel more than just a workplace. 😉 #LifeAtScantinel #GameChangingTech #NextGenSensing #FMCWLiDAR
