The European University of the Seas SEA-EU Governing Week, that took place at the University of Malta at the end of November, marked half-time for the current funding period of the Alliance. During the three-day event, the Presidency of SEA-EU passed to Kiel University, an office it will hold for the first half of 2025. Ralph Schneider, Vice President for International Affairs and Early Career Researchers at Kiel University, and Kiel representative in the SEA-EU governing board said: “As we have now reached the half-way point of the SEA-EU project, it has been important to spend time together concentrating on discussing strategies and directions for the future of our alliance and network to ensure the enduring sustainability of what we have achieved together”. Key topics discussed during the week included the legal status of the Alliance, financial sustainability, financial commitment by the partners to joint degree programmes, student and staff mobility, and inclusive communication. A varied and rich cultural program set within the historical surroundings of the Mediterranean country also gave colleagues time to reconnect and forge new collaborations. 🤝 Thank you to our colleagues in Malta for organising this memorable governing week and we look forward to welcoming you all to the next SEA-EU governing week in Kiel in June 2025! 💐 👉 https://lnkd.in/eD2sUaJ9

The power of #collaboration: across European University of the Seas SEA-EU people are working together to shape higher education in Europe. Students at all nine partner universities are having their say too about how they want to see the future of #campuslife. The Student-Led Projects initiative launched at the beginning of 2024 encouraged students to put their ideas for a more diverse, inclusive, greener and connected future to the test. From research on invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea, to webpages and online tools challenging perceptions around disability and identity, the first cohort of students delivered a vast range of projects and creating a wealth of data, results and experiences that surprised even themselves. “Our students have been asking some really big questions and challenging misconceptions and assumptions,” says project coordinator Giovanna Putortì from the University of Kiel. "They are the real change-makers." Read more about the projects and what the participants took from the experience 👉 https://lnkd.in/eX2USh5b

👩🎓 The first ever SEA-EU Micro-credential was launched in the middle of October. Over 200 students from across SEA-EU network signed up for the course on "Global Citizenship" which is designed to encourage and inspire engagement with the values, challenges and potential of global cooperation across university and national borders. 🌍 “We are very proud to present the first ever SEA-EU micro-credential course to the SEA-EU network,” said Wibke Matthes who heads the KeySkills Centre Kiel University, and coordinates the development of future skills courses within the Alliance. “What better way to mark such a historic event than with a course on Global Citizenship!” While the majority of students now work at their own pace with the online-materials and activities, a smaller cohort of students from various disciplines from the universities of Kiel and Universidade do Algarve are collaborating more closely, meeting online regularly to foster interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange. 🤝 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/epmKWk-k
