🌊 Sailing into the future – a moment to pause and celebrate innovation. ⚓ As we navigate the currents of the maritime world, the end of the year feels like a perfect harbor – a brief pause to appreciate the transformative journey we’re on. This year wasn’t just about tides, trade, or technology. It was about game-changing ideas and the people who make them possible: 🌐 Citizen Scientists revolutionizing how we understand and protect our oceans. 💡 Innovators pushing the boundaries of sustainable solutions in the New Blue Economy. 🚢 Visionaries transforming challenges into opportunities, from decarbonization to digitalization. Innovation in the maritime industry isn’t a destination – it’s a mindset. It’s about daring to think differently, whether it’s harnessing data to better understand our oceans, developing cutting-edge marine technologies, or fostering collaboration that brings science, industry, and society together. So here’s our wish for 2025: Let’s keep steering boldly into uncharted waters, embracing the unknown, and co-creating a future where progress and preservation go hand in hand. Because the ocean isn’t just a resource; it’s a source of endless inspiration. To all the changemakers shaping this journey: Thank you for your vision, passion, and persistence. 🌊 Happy holidays, and here’s to an innovative new year! 🎉🚀 #ShapingAnOceanOfPossibilities #NewBlueEconomy #OceanInnovation #CitizenScience #FutureFocused

💡Reading Recommendation (🔗 below) - SOOP | Innovation Platform in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung #Wissen: How much carbon dioxide is in the water in Antarctica? And how salty is the sea in the Drake Passage? Until now, it has not been possible to collect data on a permanent basis. Now sailors from the Vendée Globe, merchant ships and cruise ships are helping. 🌟 Last Week, the Helmholtz Innovation Platforms organized the 2nd Status Symposium in Kiel! 🌟 🚀 The platforms were launched in 2023 as a sustainable and structure-building measure to strengthen transfer and innovation in the Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft. The aim of the Helmholtz #Innovation #Platforms is to use the expertise of the Helmholtz Centers in the field of research infrastructures and to build specific platforms with a strong focus on #cooperation with users from industry (especially SMEs), research-based companies and users from civil society. The three platforms SOOP | Innovation Platform, Hi-Acts | Helmholtz Innovation Platform for Accelerator-Based Technologies & Solutions and SolarTAP presented their platform's status in front of over 80 guests from the industry, among others. This was an exciting opportunity to learn more about Helmholtz potential to transfer knowledge into application. 👏 We would like to thank everyone for the exciting presentations and wish them continued success for their projects. Thanks to GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel for organizing this event and having us as their guests. We look forward to the further development of the Helmholtz Innovation Platforms. 👉 For more information, visit us: https://lnkd.in/eeRKXB6V Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel, Alfred-Wegener-Institut, Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung

🌊 Innovative solutions for marinas and coastal regions in just 48 hours 💡 #SOOP at the 2024 Usability #Hackathon for World Usability Day! Two teams of enthusiastic computer science students demonstrated an impressive performance: Completing the #SOOPChallenge in just 48 hours! The students worked on a solution to involve marinas in the recording of harmonised marine environmental data in the future and to make the data usable for operators, users (sailors) and coastal communities. The challenge was complex: 📋 Conduct interviews with marina operators and users (sailors) to understand their needs. ⚙️ Find out which SOOP devices and scientific parameters are relevant for the different groups. 📱 The development of a click dummy for an app that makes the data visible and usable in a user-friendly way. The result? SOOP is thrilled! The students conducted in-depth and very insightful interviews and used them to create an impressive first drafts of two apps - all within two days only! This innovative solution shows how quickly you can get to realisation when creative minds come together. 💡 A big thank you to the great team from the Usability Lab at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences Oona Colliander & Anja Kujawski for organising this inspiring format and bringing us all together. We are looking forward to the next steps together with our partner TransEurope Marinas Melanie Syms and are excited to see how these ideas can integrate marinas and coastal regions into data collection and thus contribute to an improved management of coastal regions. 🌊✨ #Innovation #WorldUsabilityDay #UsabilityHackathon TransEurope Marinas #SOOP #Marinas #Data Hochschule Flensburg #UsabilityLab ARTEMIS (Interreg DE-DK) Melanie Symes
