#PostdocTalk #recap #MentalStress is a crucial topic in academia, yet it’s often overlooked. Long hours, high expectations, and constant pressure to perform can take a toll on even the most resilient individuals. Ignoring these challenges doesn’t make them go away — it could make the consequences even more serious. Academia is demanding. The pressure to publish, uncertainties around funding, and challenges in achieving work-life balance are real. But the academic journey doesn’t have to be a solitary one. That’s why today’s #PostdocTalk with Annett Schneider from Occupational Health Services was so important. Together, we explored actionable ways to support each other and tackle the mental health challenges in academia. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 1️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 Pay attention to changes in behavior, performance, or social engagement. These shifts might indicate that someone is struggling. You don’t need to diagnose anything – simply being aware is the first step. 2️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Approach struggling colleagues with empathy and care. Practice active listening and maintain a nonjudgmental attitude to create a safe space for meaningful support. Focus on specific observed behaviors and collaborate on actionable steps to improve the situation (for everyone involved). Remember, even small, intentional acts of kindness can have a significant and lasting impact. 3️⃣ 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 Supporting someone doesn’t mean carrying the burden alone. By normalizing reaching out for help — whether to assist someone or for yourself — we can create a healthier and more supportive academic environment. The Technische Universität Dresden provides a range of resources, including: ☑️ Psychological Counseling Services ☑️ Occupational Health Services ☑️ Graduiertenakademie | Postdoc Center | TUD ☑️ More links in the comment section ... Take care of each other. We're here to help! #BeKindToYourMind #MentalHealth #SupportEachOther #PostdocTalk

Shaping the Future Together! We’re super excited to see the impressive progress the five teams have made in the 𝗚𝗔 & 𝗭𝗘𝗜𝗦𝗦 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲! Yesterday’s workshop was a fantastic step forward, so a massive shoutout to Laura Schubert, Tilman von Strauwitz, and Fanny Seus! Next is the pitch training in January, which will prepare the teams for the big finale in February 2025. We can’t wait!
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 | 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗜𝗜 The 5 teams who run for our 𝗚𝗔 & 𝗭𝗘𝗜𝗦𝗦 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 have gotten their hands dirty yesterday and started drafting future scenarios for their topics. During the workshop, they learned the guiding principles of foresighting and applied methods such as PESTLE analysis, driver mapping, scenario building, and backcasting. Time flew, and the teams have a lot of food for thought! 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? In the next weeks, the teams will have time to work on their scenarios and to derive recommendations how to achieve a desirable future. In February, the researchers will present their results to a jury from the university, our company, and industry leaders. To prepare them, participants will attend a session on effective pitching, preparing them for their final presentations. The award ceremony will recognize the best visions and methodologies, celebrating the creativity of these talented individuals. 🙇 KUDOS goes to Laura Schubert & Tilman von Strauwitz for the overall organization and our partners from Graduiertenakademie | Postdoc Center | TUD for making this event possible. 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 🔭 Foresighting is a strategic planning tool that helps organizations anticipate future developments, making it essential for technology transfer and innovation. By analyzing trends and potential scenarios, it enables researchers and companies to align their efforts with emerging technologies and market needs. With this method training, we want to help young academics in reflecting how their research can contribute to real-world applications. Stay tuned for updates!
