🎉 Introducing Batch 4 of the Hardtech Innovation Accelerator! 🎉 🌱 Last week, we welcomed six new teams to the accelerator, each working on solutions to make the future more sustainable. From carbon capture to IoT applications for safer cycling, their ideas are pushing the boundaries of climate tech. 💬 “Climate tech isn’t just about cleaning the air and oceans; it’s also about transforming existing industries and social structures into more sustainable ones. In that sense, all of the projects in Batch 4 contribute to that goal. That was my key takeaway when we were selecting these startups,” says Marianna Egressy, Head of Accelerator & Ecosystem at MotionLab.Berlin and the mastermind behind the Hardtech Innovation Accelerator. During the kick-off week, the teams learned to pitch their startups, took part in hands-on workshops, and began refining their concepts with the support of lead mentors Daniel Flynn and Fernando Germán Torales Chorne, CEO and CTO at Bearcover. In short, it was an exciting start to their 7-month journey ahead. 💬 "So far, we’re experiencing great energy and motivation across the teams. It’s inspiring to see the solutions others are working on, and it feels like a community of like-minded thinkers who enjoy tackling big problems. With little rain, extensive pine forests and light sandy soils, Brandenburg is the federal state with the highest risk of forest fires. In the EU, more than half a million hectares were destroyed by forest fires in 2023. The EU research center JRC warns that the situation could get worse in the future. Thanks to a monitoring system, the forest fire season in Brandenburg has been relatively mild so far. The forest fire early detection system in Brandenburg detects clouds of smoke. And this is exactly where our impact startup Yamakoe comes into play. yamakoe detects fires rapidly with its cheap solar-powered IoT sensor using air analysis and can even detect human presence and help with evacuation strategies.
