Interoperability standards are crucial in healthcare as they enable seamless communication and data exchange among various medical devices, significantly reducing the burden on medical staff in high-pressure environments like operating rooms, shock rooms, and intensive care units. 🏥 Specifically, device-to-device communication, facilitated by Standard Service Device Interoperability (IEEE 110730 SDC Standard), allows for efficient exchange of device data, freeing healthcare professionals to concentrate on what truly matters—the patient. This streamlined integration not only enhances workflow Efficiency but also ultimately improves patient outcomes by ensuring that medical teams can respond swiftly and effectively to critical situations. 💡 That is why we at ZEISS Digital Innovation Health Solutions are excited to announce that our colleague, Richard Bieck, has been elected to the steering board of OR.NET e.V. In this role, he will help shape and advance the SDC standard while advocating for its benefits in the market. Additionally, he will support OR.NET e.V.’s mission to ensure that medical devices communicate effectively, share data seamlessly, and ultimately enhance patient safety during surgical procedures. 🤝 Thanks OR.NET e.V. for the trust! We wish our colleague Richard and his steering board members as well all other supporters all the best in their endavours! As we at ZEISS Digital stand firmly behind this initiative, recognizing that advancing interoperability in general and specifically at the point of care is a key factor in improving healthcare outcomes and quality of care. Our team from ZEISS Digital Innovation Health & Life Science Solutions recently explored the potential of transferring Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) concepts to the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) for point-of-care applications. 🏥 Why Did We Explore This Topic? There is a rising need for seamless data exchange and enhanced interoperability among medical devices to drive efficiencies at the point-of-care and improve patient outcomes. 💡 We discussed the potential of standardized communication protocols to facilitate real-time data sharing and enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery. Additionally, we considered the transformative power of automation in streamlining product functions across vendors, ultimately enhancing patient care. That is why our colleague Richard Bieck presented the topic recently at a conference “Reaching the Top Floor – approaching healthcare asset applications using IIOT & Standardized Medical Device Data”. Key takeaways from his presentation: 🌐 In the intersection of healthcare and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), lies a transformative potential that remains largely untapped. ⚙️ Translating the idea of 'asset' from a manufacturing perspective in a practical way to MedTech can optimize the use of medical devices and their data. 🛠️ Following successful standards in IIoT, like OPC UA, the IEEE 11073 Service-oriented Device Connectivity (SDC) interoperability standard can lead to the development of innovative healthcare asset applications. 📈 With a focus on the real-time and standardized data has the potential to enhance clinical decision-making, streamlining workflows, and ultimately improving patient care, especially with future communication technology of the 6th generation. If you are interested about more details how SDC can transform points-of-care and which IIoT concept could be leveraged for IoMT, feel free to reach out to our colleagues Richard Bieck, Dirk Asmus, and Leo Lindhorst and discover more about SDC under https://zeiss.ly/HLTH-SDC #SDC #HealthcareInnovation #IIoT #ZDIHealthSolutions #DigitalHealth #teamzeiss #IoMT

A quieter Intensive Care Unit (ICU) environment can lead to a 25% reduction in reported stress levels among nursing staff, contributing to better focus and job satisfaction as well as improved patient outcomes.[1][2] So, the question is how to reduce noise level in an ICU? Here the concept of the 'Silent ICU' comes into play, with several medical technology device manufacturers already well on their way to implementing it. Here's a glimpse into the activities happening in this space: 🔇 Noise reduction technologies: Think quieter ventilators and specialized alarms that are less disruptive. The ICU only has visual alarms (flashing LEDs) and acoustic alarms are outsourced to a centralized location with a dashboard and mobile devices to relieve patients. The connection works with SDC. 🔌 Integration and interoperability: Manufacturers are working on seamless communication between medical devices in the ICU. Patient data and alarms can now be accessed through an SDC integrated system, reducing the need for multiple (vendor) devices and associated noise. 💤 Patient comfort and communication: The focus is on enhancing patient comfort and communication within the ICU. Expect user-friendly interfaces, customizable settings, and patient-centric features that promote better interaction between patients and healthcare providers. ⚙️ Workflow optimization: By streamlining processes and reducing unnecessary alarms and alerts, devices and systems are being designed to enhance overall care delivery efficiency. If you are interested about the Silent ICU and how SDC will transform other points-of-care, feel free to reach out to our colleagues Richard Bieck, Dirk Asmus, and Leo Lindhorst and discover more about SDC under https://zeiss.ly/HLTH-SDC #SilentICU #SDC #HealthcareInnovation #ZDIHealthSolutions #teamZEISS #DigitalHealth #SDC [1] Miller, S.
