Technology plays a vital role in safeguarding food security across the world, but particularly in Africa, where we are partnering with farmers to support sustainably increasing farm productivity. Africa Country Cluster Lead Debra Mallowah shares some thoughts in the comments below on the challenge to those of us who produce both the innovations and the policies surrounding their use. #RegenerativeAgriculture #SmallholderFarmers #SustainableDevelopment

In March, we announced a pilot using generative AI to upskill a farmer-facing pilot group within #TeamBayer, aiming to help them respond to farmers' questions more quickly and accurately. We have continued to fine-tune that model, training it on specialized industry data and thousands of real-world questions farmers and agronomic professionals have about crop protection. Now, in partnership with Microsoft, we've launched E.L.Y. Crop Protection, an adapted AI models that expands ag industry capabilities and enables organizations like ours to address farm customers' needs more accurately and effectively. 🌍 COP29 wrapped up this weekend, emphasizing the crucial topic of climate finance. Crop Science Head of Sustainability & Strategic Engagement Natasha Santos reports on the increasing role Regenerative Agriculture will play in unlocking a sustainable future, and looks ahead to the discussions at next year's COP30, to be held in Belém, Brazil. #RegenerativeAgriculture #COP29 #COP30 #ClimateFinance #SustainableDevelopment

By implementing our #RegenerativeAgriculture solutions, farmers can achieve sustainable yield improvements without the need for additional land. As COP29 and the G20 Summit have brought climate change discussions firmly into focus, regenerative agriculture needs to be seen as a crucial solution for balancing food security with environmental restoration and regeneration. This year, Bayer is represented by Natasha Santos at COP to discuss how outcome-based crop production enhances productivity while improving soil health and supporting biodiversity. We are proud today to announce the pilot of Project Enhanced S3, an expanded approach to our carbon sequestration and emission reduction programs. The project will not only help reduce Scope 3 emissions, but it will also help us quantify and report on the added benefits of applying regenerative agriculture practices. This means added insights from improvements to soil health, biodiversity, water usage, and more, without increased operational burden placed on farmers. #DigitalFarming #RegenerativeAgriculture #Scope3

Can sustainability practices also be profitable? Sangeeta Dawar Mendiratta, Public Affairs and Sustainability lead for #TeamBayer, says yes. Traditional rice farming is highly water-dependent, leading to significant water depletion and increased methane emissions. While the labor-intensive nature of traditional rice farming places a heavy burden on farmers. Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) is a method that is both resource-efficient and less labor-intensive where rice is sown directly into the field and can grow without standing water. Sangeeta shares her experience finding ways to bring the right partners together to transform rice cropping in a profit-driven landscape in #EverydayEchoes, the new series by WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development. “Implementing direct seeded rice is a collaborative effort involving ecosystem partners, internal and global stakeholders, the government and knowledge partners,” Dawar said.

We have a long history of successful collaboration with Orbia Netafim, including the opening of a new Better Life Farming center in Vietnam earlier this month. Now we're expanding our work into the digital farming space. Bayer has developed a new digital platform called HortiView to simplify primary data collection and sharing for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, to which Orbia Netafim is adding irrigation insights, providing growers tailored irrigation recommendations based on the primary data they provide in the platform. Our goal? Help growers maximize crop production, optimize their use of resources, and minimize food production's impact on the environment. #RegenerativeAgriculture

Bayer is proud to participate in Verra’s Scope 3 Standard (S3S) Program alongside 3Degrees Group, Inc., Klim, and Patagonia as part of their pilot initiative to test groundbreaking methodologies aimed at reducing emissions across the agriculture supply chain. By collaborating with Verra, we’re helping shape a new era of emissions reporting and sustainable practices. #RegenerativeAgriculture

Building a robust regenerative agriculture ecosystem takes a village—with farmers at the center. Malu Nachreiner emphasizes how collaborating is essential to define what regenerative agriculture truly means on the ground. 🌾 The future of agriculture in Asia truly starts with farmers. They must be at the center of the conversation, collaborating with various stakeholders to shape what regenerative agriculture means on the ground. "We need to partner not only with farmers but also engage with a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders—including NGOs, government, companies, startups, and academia. Together, we can create robust solutions that empower farmers and ensure a sustainable agricultural future." #RegenerativeAgriculture
