For the third time, Rohde & Schwarz MNT supported Signals Research Group - SRG in benchmarking mobile networks in the Dallas Metro area. This latest study revealed fascinating insights into the evolving landscape of 5G standalone (SA) networks including: (1) 5G SA adoption: Two operators, DISH and T-Mobile, implemented 5G SA during the tests. While DISH relies entirely on 5G SA with VoNR for calls, T-Mobile still utilizes VoLTE via EPS fallback (EPSFB). (2) VoNR vs. VoLTE: VoNR, though emerging, faces challenges such as lower speech quality in poor radio conditions, while EPSFB shows higher call setup times. (3) Record-breaking throughput: Verizon leveraged the 28 GHz spectrum to achieve exceptional data rates of up to 2.5 Gbps downlink and 0.5 Gbps uplink—state-of-the-art performance we’ve never seen before. Using our advanced drive test tools and Network Performance Score (NPS) framework, we ensured precise data collection and analysis to provide actionable insights into network performance from a user experience perspective.
