A blueprint for #AI adoption in large organizations.
It may not be the only way, but it’s a journey we have started with one of our customers, Turner Construction Company, and we’ll share our progress as we go.
Let’s clarify that it’s not as simple as buying an enterprise #ChatGPT license from OpenAI and letting employees run with it. Yes, that might be one of the to-dos, but #AI adoption requires a well-thought-out strategy.
Here are some takeaways and lessons so far:
1️⃣ Organizations need someone with authority, vision, and influence to own and drive the project. At Turner, Jim Barrett, the Head of Global Innovation, spearheads #AI adoption.
2️⃣ A top-down approach is needed.
When you are a $20B company with 15,000 employees, an initiative like adopting AI requires buy-in and support at the highest level to have any chance of success.
To achieve this, Design Sprint Academy partnered with AI Academy and ran a one-day AI Opportunity Mapping Workshop with the senior leadership. Through real-life case studies, they explored what AI can and cannot do, the risks involved, and the requirements needed for a successful AI adoption. This helped leaders make informed decisions on where AI could make the most impact within the business.
3️⃣ AI needs to make a business impact (quickly).
Now that there’s leadership buy-in and a clear focus on where AI can be applied, the next step is to prove it’s working. We will develop the first #AI proof of concepts in the next few weeks with AI Design Sprints. But that will be another update, so stay tuned.
And some personal highlights:
🗽Always good to be back in New York. I love the vibe, the energy, and how fast things move. In Europe, we can be a bit slow and complacent.
🙏 It was fantastic to work again with Maria Pantelaros and Kristin Forte from Turner’s Innovation team.
🤝 Partnering with Gianluca Mauro from AI Academy for this workshop was great. Workshops, design thinking, and user-centricity are must-haves for innovation, but with AI, domain expertise is also a must. Leveraging his 10-year experience with AI, Gianluca brought essential insights and knowledge to the table.
