Om os
Anima International is formed by six animal protection organisations across Europe. Founded in 2018 by leaders from Poland and Denmark, the group brings together animal advocates from these countries as well as Norway, Bulgaria, France and the UK. Our intention is to make change happen for animals as quickly and effectively as possible. We believe that sharing our knowledge and resources can help create a stronger movement to fight animal suffering.

🎉 Huge shout out to our Bulgarian team and its leader Stefan Dimitrov, who have been nominated for the Person of the Year award by the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee. As Stefan says: "This recognition is primarily for the fight to protect animals in Bulgaria as a whole. It's for all people who care and act for animals, no matter how. Because the truth is that it is not any individual person, but only people together and united, who have the power to change things for the better – and they do." 🙏 The award ceremony will take place on December 10th – International Human Rights Day. We’re deeply concerned about KFC’s withdrawal from their 2026 Better Chicken Commitment timeline in the UK. KFC UK & Ireland claims supply chain limitations make it impossible to source higher-welfare breeds – yet they represent less than 3% of the UK chicken market. The reality is clear: the supply exists. What's missing is the willingness to invest in promised welfare improvements. This backtracking is particularly disappointing given that other major brands – such as M&S and Waitrose – remain on track with their commitments. These companies demonstrate that transitioning to higher welfare standards is achievable when prioritized. As Connor Jackson – the CEO of our UK branch – notes: “Higher welfare chicken supply is available, it's just a matter of will. Food businesses need to make a decision: do they want to invest in animal welfare or not? Because investment is what it takes, and that's what they signed up for.” It’s promising that KFC still assures that they intend to meet the commitment by a later date. However, with just 1% progress after 5 years, they have not shown much work towards this goal. We call on KFC to present a concrete, time-bound plan for meeting their Better Chicken Commitment. The animals can't wait, and neither should we. Corporate responsibility means following through on public promises – not just when they're convenient, but especially when they require real investment and systemic change. #CorporateResponsibility #AnimalWelfare #BetterChickenCommitment https://lnkd.in/drKJ3jmp

🦊 Hundreds gathered in Warsaw this Sunday to demand an end to fur farming in Poland, demonstrating sustained public opposition to this industry. 🛠️ Our Polish team constructed a full-scale mink farm installation in central Warsaw, using actual cages and equipment from a decommissioned facility. It showed the bleak reality of fur farming and formed part of a major protest co-organised with other animal advocacy groups. 🪧 The protest march, which started at the Parliament building, brought together diverse voices: activists, celebrities, members of communities affected by fur farms, and regular people determined to see the end of fur farming in Poland. 📊 Over 3 million minks, foxes, raccoon dogs, and chinchillas suffer annually in Polish fur farms, while research shows 70% of the Polish public supports a ban. This disconnect between public sentiment and current legislation needs to change. 🇪🇺 This action follows our recent advocacy at the Eurogroup for Animals conference, where we urged the European Commission to fulfill their commitment to ban both cage farming and fur farming across the EU. 22 European countries have already prohibited fur farming, with Romania being the latest to join this progressive movement. While a bill to ban fur farming awaits consideration in the Polish parliament, we continue working with communities and politicians to ensure this protest will be Poland's last and fur farming will finally be history. #AnimalWelfare #PolicyChange #FurFree #EuropeanUnion Photos: Andrew Skowron, Tomasz Sójka

A helpful summary from the team at Hive of our CEO Jakub Stencel's recent appearance on the How I Learned to Love Shrimp podcast 🙌
After listening to the latest How I Learned to Love Shrimp podcast episode with Jakub Stencel, the interim director of Anima International, we want to share our main takeaways: 1️⃣ Something Jakub updated his thinking about: with the big push for institutional change in animal advocacy, there might not be enough outreach with ethical considerations to inspire the next generation of advocates. 2️⃣ One of Anima International's organizational cultures is radical transparency: pretty much everybody has access to anything, whether it's about salaries or policies. But there are limits to transparency, for cost-effectiveness (it takes a lot of time to put everything out there) and safety reasons (e.g. details about investigations). 3️⃣ On giving feedback: feedback doesn't have to be brutal when we have enough psychological safety to share our mistakes, failures, and problems. Constructive feedback can be framed as a way to course-correct and make sure we stick to the goal of helping animals. 🎙️ Listen to the episode here: https://lnkd.in/gPRSBSpp
