🦈 In the wild, the Greenland shark can live to an impressive age of up to 392 ± 120 years, making it the longest-lived vertebrate. One might conclude that studying the Greenland shark would be the best approach to understanding ageing. However, this is only partially true. 🐁 Despite its impressive lifespan, the Greenland shark is not a good model animal for studying ageing. Several factors make the humble field mouse a much more practical research tool. Aside from the very much obvious considerations related to housing and feeding, studying ageing in a short-lived organism provides relatively rapid access to data.
