Civil Connections Community Foundation (CCCF) is a Copenhagen-based voluntary, international non – government organization started by a group of passionate long-term community activists that want to give back to their local communities.
Our aim is to increase the value that local grass-roots communities gain from international development initiatives/projects by facilitating commonly not accessible/reached development actors and communities, to gain voice and influence in such initiatives, through outfitting them with exposure, capacity, motivation, and mentorship for long-term sustainability.
We aim to fill a gap – build bridges between those that burn to do good for the most marginalized, and grass-roots communities where the most marginalized commonly find themselves.
We have on different levels facilitated these links for years, and now we want to systematize this experience and expertise into a sustainable long-term ambition.
Our mission is to support local grassroots (with special attention to rural) development actors to achieve their aims in facilitating community development for a fair and sustainable world. This is done through:
Amplifying their work to the world,
Facilitating sustainable growth of their capacity,
Resource mobilization and funding, and
Long-term motivation and mentoring
Our guiding principles:
- Locals in the driver seat
- Home-grown solutions
- Action for marginalized
- None left behind-no harm
- Critical mass for change

Civil Connections in partnership with Black In Business and Danish Diaspora Collaborations invites you for an engaging dialogue on the role of diasporas and migrants in framing agendas and policies in European Countries. For this event we focus on the newly launched Danish Africa Strategy.
The dialogue is part of our project Coming2Europe funded by Erasmus+. The project explores how migrants across Denmark, Sweden, & Norway find their footing towards inclusion in their communities.
The panel features expert across the field including Civil Connections' Founder Andrew Julius Bende.
In August 2024, Denmark unveiled a bold and forward-looking strategy: “Africa’s Century – A Strategy for Strengthened Danish Engagement with African Countries.” This ambitious vision seeks to redefine Denmark’s relationship with African countries by building partnerships grounded in equality and mutual benefit, as opposed to earlier approaches where power dynamic was deemed unequal.
As Africa's geopolitical influence surges, this strategy acknowledges the continent’s growing importance:
By 2050, 1 in 4 people worldwide will live in Africa, and the continent will host 1 in 3 of the world’s youth.
Africa stands at a crossroads, increasingly positioned as a key player in global politics, with both Eastern (Asia& Rusia) and Western powers vying for closer ties.
The stakes are high. As Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has stated, Europe—and Denmark—must offer an attractive alternative to rising Chinese and Russian influence. Denmark aims to rise to this challenge through increased trade, investment, and a focus on fostering mutual understanding between nations.
Here is the biggest question: How do we turn these goals into reality?
Why You Should Attend
Black in Business Denmark and our partners invite you to an engaging and thought-provoking evening centered around the theme: “Diaspora as Bridge Builders.”
The event will bring together diaspora leaders, business innovators, and global partners to explore the critical role of the African diaspora in shaping this new strategy. With their unique position as cultural mediators and network builders, the diaspora can be the driving force behind successful implementation.
Key Question for Discussion:
How can the diaspora’s experience, dual cultural insight, and expansive networks between Denmark and Africa be leveraged to achieve the strategy’s ambitious goals?
What to Expect:
Inspiring Conversations: Engage with thought leaders and decision-makers shaping the future of Danish-African relations.
Networking Opportunities: Connect with individuals and organizations passionate about Africa’s growth and its partnerships with Denmark.
Actionable Insights: Discover how you can play a role in fostering meaningful collaboration and driving impactful change.
Hygge with Purpose: Enjoy a cozy, welcoming atmosphere where ideas flow freely.
Why This Matters
The African diaspora is a living bridge between Denmark and Africa. By tapping into their wealth of knowledge and connections, this new strategy can evolve from vision to reality, ensuring that partnerships are not just agreements on paper but transformative, lasting collaborations.
Join us for this dynamic evening of dialogue and inspiration, where together we will envision how the diaspora can lead the way in turning “Africa’s Century” into a shared success story for Denmark and Africa alike.

☀️ What a fun time in Sicily! 🍋
Who said work can’t be exciting? Last month, we sent two youth workers from our network to Catania, Sicily, to participate in Strauss APS's incredible workshop: "CTRL M: Mapping a Mentoring Memory." This initiative focused on capacity building for youth mentors, providing tools and strategies to improve mentoring practices for youth operators.
At Civil Connections, we’re committed to delivering high-quality social initiatives for the youth, and that starts with investing in the development of youth workers who make it all possible.
The sessions involved plenty of hard work, but they also created space for networking, exchanging ideas, and building lasting friendships. Experiences like these strengthen our mission to support the youth in Denmark and beyond while sparking innovation in how we approach youth work.
Our volunteers also enjoyed the beautiful weather, the incredible location (just under mount Etna) and the delicious Sicilian cuisine.
Thank you Strauss for hosting such a great workshop!

Earlier this month, we sent 2 team members with Global Focus and Nyt Europa's study trip to Brussels to learn and talk all things fundamental human rights in Europe. 🙌
Take a look a some thoughts from our project coordinator, Amelia 👇 👇 👇
Project Coordinator for Grassroots & Community Works
Paulo Freire once wrote: To speak a true word is to transform the world.
Freire's thoughts on learning as liberation, as well as critical co-creation, have frequently featured as inspiration to my mind's eye of working in civil society - especially in the grassroots context. That's why (true to form) I, along with Louise Kjær, jumped at the chance this month to represent Civil Connections in Global Focus Fokus and Nyt Europa's study trip to Brussels. I had the great opportunity to spend three exciting, intense and eye-opening days with 23 other Danish civil society organisations to talk about fundamental human rights in Europe. Where do we stand as civil society? How do we, working together, protect the activist space?
This opportunity was a prompt to engage deeply with Civil Connections mission of protecting civil society spaces and working for grassroots capacitation - and learn from the strategies of others! Right now, world events are challenging democracy and civil society. Spending this time with fellow civil society actors has been hugely invigorating in our role upholding our civic spaces and all of the dialogues and debates in it. Most importantly, the visit revealed a complex image of the pressing forces impacting civil society and maintenance of fundamental rights: a present and future on which all participants gave key insights, affirming core values of addressing inequality at its roots through community level impact, and empowering community members to become agents of change in their own communities.
Rights-based work demands us to not just be critical of the growing forces limiting civil society, but also to see how diverse civil society actors can come together to uplift the principles of critical dialogue in society and fundamental rights for all.
Super huge thank you to this opportunity Global Focus and Nyt Europa, as well as all of the inspiring NGOs who also took part who you should absolutely take a look at:

At Civil Connections, we are all about the GRASSROOTS 🌱🌱
When we meet the work around us, working at the grassroots has us understand that we work with nuances and complexities, seek bridges of understanding across borders and cultures, and are challenged to tell community stories together.
How do we do this? As NGO and grassroots workers we make a commitment: that we are bound by a common motivation to uplift local communities, and that we want to shine a spotlight on the innovative and homegrown solutions in Denmark and globally! By working with our amazing partners, we have been able to witness this first-hand, and be one part of many and diverse project visions for empowered communities.
