Our scalable pyrolysis and gasification platform can remove a gigaton of carbon from the atmosphere by 2040

Om os

At MASH Makes, we convert organic waste into sustainable biofuels, biochar, and carbon removal solutions to combat climate change and promote sustainability. Our biochar is a carbon-rich material used as a soil amendment to improve soil health and agricultural productivity. It provides a natural, sustainable alternative to chemical fertilisers, enhancing soil without the harmful environmental impacts. Our biochar also acts as a long-term carbon storage solution, making it an essential tool for carbon sequestration and the fight against climate change. At the same time, we produce MASH Makes Advanced Biofuel, a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. This offers industries like shipping and energy a cleaner way to power operations. Our biofuel is produced from organic waste residues, providing a renewable, low-emission fuel option. Our high-quality carbon removal certificates further empower businesses to reduce their carbon footprints. These certificates provide a verifiable way for companies to offset emissions, aligning with climate goals and enhancing their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) profiles. We are committed to offering high-quality, scalable solutions for a more sustainable future. Through advanced biofuel, biochar, and carbon removal initiatives, MASH Makes is driving meaningful change to support a greener planet.

It’s been a busy year for MASH Makes. We started by getting our first production site in Karnataka up and running, and tomorrow we’re marking the expansion of that facility with a groundbreaking ceremony. Once completed, the expansion will more than double the biochar and biofuel production capacity of what is already Asia's largest high-quality carbon removal facility. In between, we’ve conducted dozens of biochar trials, gained new certifications, and built important partnerships. We’re making steady progress towards our goals. Watch this space for more developments in 2025. This week, MASH Makes celebrates the unique collaboration and expertise that we share between Denmark and India. 📍 In Denmark, we're hosting three of our Indian colleagues – Naman Gupta, Bobby Choudhary, and Niranjan Kolhe – this week. Their visit focuses on deepening collaboration with our technical teams and refining strategies to optimise production. 📍 Meanwhile, in India, our Danish colleague, Rasmus Bruun Sleimann, is returning from five months as Head of Plant Operations at our Karnataka facility. During his time in India, Rasmus helped significantly enhance our production capabilities, achieve key targets for the year, and elevate operational standards. Back in Denmark, Rasmus will resume his role as Head of Test Centre. To further build on this collaboration, we also welcome Kim Bach, a Danish professional with extensive experience managing complex manufacturing operations, as our Chief Operating Officer for India. Kim soon relocate to India to oversee and enhance our production processes. Looking forward to even more collaboration and shared experiences in 2025!

Our biochar is one of the most stable forms of carbon storage available! A recent analysis revealed that our biochar is over 99% inertinite, with very little reactive carbon. The samples also demonstrated exceptionally high reflectance—over 4%—with a very narrow range of values. That means that we’re essentially producing inertinite biochar—a highly stable and permanent solution for carbon storage. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of our carbonisation process. While more testing is planned, this promising data confirms that MASH Makes biochar stands out as one of the most durable carbon removal solutions available today. Thanks to Aarhus University and GEUS, and professors Hamed Sanei, Arka Rudra, and Henrik I. Petersen for great collaboration. #Biochar #CarbonSequestration #CarbonStorage #MASHMakes #CarbonRemoval #CDR #Inertinite

This month, we’ve shared impressive results from our biochar field studies. Today, we turn the spotlight on the farmers and researchers making these achievements possible. 📍 In central Maharashtra, India, we partner with MANAVLOK(Marathwada Navnirman Lokayat), a non-profit organisation focused on rural development. Together, we trial biochar to improve soil health, increase crop yields, and promote sustainable agriculture. These trials show biochar’s power to enhance farming and sustain its own production. It’s a cycle of growth that benefits both the land and its people. Swipe through to see some of our favourite moments from the field. #SustainableFarming #Biochar #SoilHealth #RuralDevelopment #CircularEconomy And a special thanks to Christopher Herwig for the beautiful images!

  • 🌾 Yes, you can combine biochar with traditional inputs! MASH Makes’ biochar is an EBC AgroOrganic soil enhancer made from organic waste, designed to improve soil structure, water retention, and nutrient availability. It works seamlessly with familiar inputs like urea, organic manure, cocopeat, and more to amplify their benefits. And today's a great day to talk about that because it's World Soil Day! Over 95% of our food depends on healthy soils, which supply 15 of the 18 essential elements plants need. Yet, climate change and human activity are degrading this precious resource. Sustainable practices such as minimum tillage, crop rotation, organic matter addition, and cover cropping are essential to restoring soil health. These measures improve fertility, conserve biodiversity, and even sequester carbon—key in combating climate change. MASH Makes’ biochar fits seamlessly into these practices. It enhances the soil’s ability to retain water, boost nutrient availability, and supports plant health. When combined with inputs like vermicompost, humic acid, and zeolite, biochar supercharges the benefits of sustainable soil management. 🌱 By choosing biochar, you’re investing in better soil health, higher yields, and a more sustainable future. At the start of May this year, we launched Grounded, our podcast chronicling the journey of a startup striving to reshape the way we approach carbon removal and sustainability. What began as an idea fuelled by curiosity and a desire to share the realities of building a biochar business has grown into two seasons, 10 episodes, some hard-earned answers—and a host of new questions. Now, as December rolls in, we’re closing out the year with the aptly titled season and year finale: Wrapping It Up. As the year comes to a close, Tom reflects on the journey that’s brought him here. In this season finale, he looks back on everything the biochar pilot has taught him—both professionally and personally—and starts to think about what comes next. He also sits down with those who’ve walked similar paths, seeking insights and wisdom as he considers the future of the project. Is he ready to answer the big questions he faced at the start of this journey? And how has his time in the countryside shaped him for what’s ahead? This episode features incredible contributions from Adam Samuel (CapChar), Alex Hume (Finance Earth), Richard Barker (Counteract), Jakob Bejbro Andersen (MASH Makes), and Freddie Catlow (Planboo). A huge thank you to all our guests for sharing their perspectives and helping us bring this season to life. Thanks to our producer Ben Weaver-Hincks for putting this together once again. Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network, Paola Sáenz, Lizzy L., Jack Turnham, and Oluwaseun, thanks for your continuous dedication to the project. Link to the season finale in comments ⬇️

  • Our biochar works both horizontally—and vertically! Check out our impressive results with vertical farming here: https://lnkd.in/dTYNhEuZ Our AgriOrganic biochar is a sustainable soil amendment made from organic waste that's proven to improve soil health by retaining water and nutrients. In our latest commercial trial, we explored how biochar could enhance vertical farming—the practice of growing crops in stacked layers or vertically-inclined surfaces to maximise space and resource efficiency. Here’s what we found: 🪴 27% more productivity: Biochar allowed farmers to grow 27% more crops in the same space, removing the need for land expansion. 🪴 Extended growing seasons: With biochar, onions thrived in summer—a season they typically struggle in—unlocking the potential for a third crop rotation and greater year-round productivity. 🪴 Healthier soil: Biochar provided uniform moisture and nutrient distribution, ensuring plants had what they needed to grow healthily. 🪴 Reduced water use: Biochar eliminated the need for expensive water circulation systems or complex vertical farming towers. Have you seen or tried vertical farming before? Share your experience in the comments below! #Biochar #CDR #CarbonRemoval #SustainableAgriculture #Agriculture #Farming #OrganicFarming #LandUse
