In 2023, 630,000 people died of AIDS-related illnesses despite the availability of effective treatment, according to UNAIDS. An estimated 9.3 million people who are infected are not accessing those lifesaving drugs. And despite a broad suite of prevention services, an additional 1.3 million people acquired HIV last year. JUST PUBLISHED : Systems thinking approach to human resources development in public health supply chains https://lnkd.in/gRBJBF8j I am honoured to have worked with colleagues (@Erin Meier, @Barry Chovitz, @Dominique Zwinkles, @Michael Egharevba, @Bridget McHenry, @Joseph Kabatende, @Ines Buki), to get this paper out... developing the supply chain workforce takes a lot more than training... This framework is driven by iterative systems thinking, a deeper consideration of the SCM labor market and a comprehensive mapping of human resource system requirements. The framework centers around three tools. A labor market analysis assesses factors influencing supply of and demand for health SCM workers in a country context. To improve supply of and demand for workers, the SCM Professionalisation Framework provides reference documents to establish health SCM as a recognized profession. The human resources for SCM Theory of Change explains and assesses the conditions required to achieve optimal workforce performance at the organizational level. The Ministry of Health in Rwanda applied these three tools sequentially to assess and improve the supply and performance of its health SCM workforce. Together we can do better to improvbe the availability and use of quality health products to meet UHC goals.

Will you be attending the Global Health Supply Chain Summit in #Lagos? Prof. Paul Lalvani, Founder and Executive Director of Empower School of Health, and Francis Aboagye-Nyame, Program Director of the USAID Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program, Management Sciences for Health (#MSH), will present the results of the STEP ASIA evaluation, conducted by Empower and MSH with support from the The Global Fund. Our mixed methods approach built off the existing People that Deliver M&E framework and combined quantitative operational indicators with an outcome harvesting approach. We used this method to showcase the impact of STEP in bringing about #PSCM changes in an Asian cohort. Join us to learn more about how we evaluated the impact of this capacity-building program (#STEP). #EmpoweringMillions #capacitybuilding #leadership #globalhealthsupplychain #GHSCSummit
