Denmark's climate partnerships are set to become a model for global initiatives. This is the vision behind a new agreement signed by the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development and State of Green Denmark at the Denmark Pavilion during the COP29 Azerbaijan climate summit in Baku. The joint initiative will strive to replicate Denmark’s model of climate partnerships across other countries and regions, aiming to internationalise Danish climate partnerships in the lead-up to #COP30 in Brazil in 2025. With insights and learnings from the Danish climate partnerships, Denmark will act as a knowledge partner for the project. The partnership was signed during a session at the Denmark Pavilion at COP29, focusing on public-private collaboration for climate action. Besides the announcement made by Dominic Waughray, Executive Vice President WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and Finn M., Executive Director, State of Green Denmark, the session included a panel discussion with Nick Mabey, CO-CEO at E3G, and Concepción Boo Arias, Head of Global Partnerships and Enablement at A.P. Why is standardization important?   Last week, State of Green and GRUNDFOS hosted the second Denmark-China Standardization Seminar in House of Green, bringing together experts and key organisations from the construction and standardization sectors. With a focus on energy efficiency in buildings, this event provided a platform to exchange insights on standardization practices in Denmark, Europe, and China. Standardisation plays a key role in ensuring consistency, reliability, and trust across borders—accelerating progress in energy efficiency. We are happy to support this important dialogue and look forward to follow the exciting collaborations shaping tomorrow’s green building standards. Geothermal energy to be integrated into Copenhagen’s district heating system ♨️ Citizens in the Greater Copenhagen area may soon benefit from heating their homes with energy sourced deep from beneath the earth. A new collaboration between Denmark's largest waste-to-energy plant Vestforbrænding and the geothermal company Innargi is set to introduce geothermal energy into Greater Copenhagen's district heating network. This is part of a broader expansion of district heating in the region, projected to provide heat to 39,000 households across seven municipalities starting in 2028. "It’s time for business and not brinkmanship." As we enter the final stretches of this year’s COP29 Azerbaijan, the world is watching. With disagreements looming in Baku, COP29 may well go into overtime. Yet, #COP29 began with strong momentum, including several financial frameworks and commitments for climate funding. 10 days, 31 partners, more than 40 events and more than 100 high-level speakers.   The Denmark Pavilion COP29 Azerbaijan has been packed with insightful discussions and panel debates over the last two weeks, covering everything from green financing, food and agriculture, and clean energy sources to how to decarbonise buildings, industries and hard-to-abate-sectors, all united under the theme of public-private partnerships. Time to wrap up in Baku after 12 intensive and rewarding days at COP29 Azerbaijan. The Denmark Pavilion has been home to more than 40 side events hosted by some 30 Danish companies and organisations who chose to be present in Baku. We gave interviews to several journalists including national Azerbaijani TV, Lars Aagaard, minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities briefed the press and NGOs on the political negotiations, and State of Green Denmark entered an agreement with WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development to internationalise Denmark’s climate partnerships, positioning them as a model for global initiatives. It's crunch time in Baku 🇩🇰🇦🇿🇺🇳☘️ We are well into the second and crucial week of COP29 Azerbaijan and negotiations are entering the final stage. Yesterday afternoon, Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard took time to brief media, civil society and the private sector on the status of the negotiations at the Denmark Pavilion. Cutting agriculture emissions and restoring nature: Discover Denmark’s historic tripartite agreement 🌾 With broad political consensus, Denmark's government has today unveiled a historic tripartite agreement. Including nature restoration, the world's first carbon emission tax for agriculture, and much more, this agreement will initiate the largest transformation of the Danish landscape in over 100 years. "I would not hesitate to call this a historic achievement. With this agreement, we are now allocating billions to carry out a significant transformation of Denmark's land use. Danish nature will be changed in a way not seen since the drainage of wetlands in 1864. Denmark will become the first country in the world to introduce a CO2e tax on agriculture. And with the new agreement, we are launching an ambitious nitrogen reduction effort to ensure the return of fish to our coasts and fjords." says Jeppe Bruus, Denmark's Minister for Green Transition. The political agreement follows months of negotiations between the government and parliamentary parties in the Danish Parliament. It builds on an agreement established in June 2024, with contributions from organisations such as Danmarks Naturfredningsforening and the Danish Agriculture and Food Council. At COP29 Azerbaijan, decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors, contributing to around 30% of global emissions, are key focus for achieving net-zero goals. 🔌⚡🧪🚢 🏭 The last two days, the hard-to-abate sectors have also been on the agenda at Denmark Pavilion. And the message is clear: From heavy industry to aviation and shipping, innovative solutions are essential. • Global efforts target green hydrogen and liquid e-fuels, scaling carbon capture and utilisation (CCUS) as well as enhancing energy efficiency and accelerating electrification. • Regulations like the IMO's target to achieve net-zero GHG emmissions from shipping by 2050 highlight the urgency, as do decarbonisation targets in steel and cement. With 90% of vessels still using fossil fuels, decarbonisation is now a critical necessity, especially for climate-vulnerable regions dependent on shipping. The IMO and EU are called to support countries like Africa and India in this transition, with immediate focus on electrification and a long-term goal of integrating solar and wind into the energy mix.
