Perspectives on Denmark’s declining birthrates Symposium on January 24, 2025 Merck Denmark and Women in Life Science Denmark invites you to a symposium on Denmark’s declining birth rates, how we think about reproductive health and the sustainability of our future society. Declining birth rates are more than just a demographic trend facing our modern societies — they represent an increasingly urgent societal challenge and political concern. But what are the causes beyond health-related and cultural factors? How can we support young people in balancing careers, health, and family aspirations? Nynne Bjerre Christensen will moderate the symposium, where leading researchers, politicians, and representatives from Generation Y and Z, will share their concerns and hopes for the future of Danish welfare. The symposium will address the health, demographic, generational, and socio-economic perspectives on Denmark's declining birth rates. Meet the speakers: Margrethe Vestager (Outgoing EU Commissioner) Prof. Cecilia Ramlau-Hansen (Dept. of Public Health, Aarhus University) Prof. Rune Lindahl-Jacobsen (Dept. of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark) Linea Søgaard-Lidelløgaard-Lidell (Venstre) Mai Villadsen (Enhedslisten) Sofie Diemer (Author and Radio Host) Julie Grove (Debater and Author) Carl Emil Lind Christensen (founding member of the “Apprentice Rebellion”) Lene Gerlach (Chair of Women in Life Science Denmark) Montse Jansà (General Manager of Merck Denmark) 📅 Date: January 24, 9:30-12:00 📍 Venue: Karen Blixen Room, The Black Diamond, Copenhagen 👉 Sign up and join us as we explore a challenge that will shape our society across generations. The applicable rules and ethical guidelines mean that practicing fertility specialists cannot participate. #dkpol #dksundhed #birthrates #Merck #Future #WILD

“Every ceiling we raise is a floor for those coming after us… and thanks to them that were here before us” - Chelsea Ranger - 🌟 You could say the journey to close the gender gap began with trailblazing #RoleModels like the Suffragettes, who laid the foundation for future generations of women to #BreakBarriers and claim their place in leadership, education, and the workforce. There are many more outstanding examples to mention. Individuals and groups. 🌟 Role models are crucial in inspiring women to pursue opportunities they might not have considered possible. Seeing #WomenInLeadership roles—from politics and business to science, healthcare and sports—empowers others to follow in their footsteps. 🌟 Gender should never be a limitation! 🌟 #ClosingTheGenderGap requires not just policy changes but also visible examples of women thriving and never giving up on finding new ways to include women in leadership. Both women and men shall serve as role models, together championing #inclusivity and #equality. 🌟Together we can #InspireFutureGenerations to break down barriers and ensure that leadership positions reflect the diverse talents of all genders. True progress happens when everyone is empowered to lead and succeed, regardless of gender. 🌟 Everyone can be a role model and show it is possible to accelerate progress toward true gender equality, ensuring that future generations of women have #EqualOpportunities to lead and succeed💫! For #WomensHealth - for a brighter world! Congratulations to our sister organisation Women in Life Science Norway (WiLD Norway) with their inaugural meeting yesterday👏 Important topics were on the agenda, check out the report from Menon Economics on the gender gap in Norway’s life sciences, see comments below. WiLD is now a Nordic movement with more than 550 members in Women in Life Science Denmark, Women in Life Science Norway (WiLD Norway) and VILDA - Ledande kvinnor i Life Science! Come an meet us at #BioEurope Nov 4th 12:00-12:45 at the Exhibition Hall Stage talking about the needs and implications of gender balance for our sector across the Nordic countries.
𝐖𝐢𝐋𝐃 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲’𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 Last night, WiLD Norway officially launched its first event at Forskningsparken, with nearly 120 attendees and a room full of energy. Kicking things off, our Founder & Chair, Chelsea Ranger, set the tone for an impactful evening. 🌟 We were privileged to hear from inspiring speakers like Solveig Østby Vitanza (Labour Party), renowned equality researcher Mari Teigen (CORE), and Kari Holm Hejna (First House). Menon Economics, represented by Kari Rolfsjord and Erland Skogli, shared fresh data on the gender gap in Norway’s life sciences, highlighting that while progress is happening, it's far too slow. Chelsea captivated the audience with a personal story of her upbringing around the oil industry, asking the room whether they were picturing men or women. The twist? The central figure was her mother, a leader in a male-dominated field. This powerful moment illustrated just how deeply unconscious bias runs. 🎤 💡 The evening’s panel, led by Board Member Ole J. Dahlberg, discussed the importance of role models, allyship, and how gender differences can be strengths. Sponsors Sarsia Partner Farzad Abdi-Dezfuli, Sponsor Novartis Norge GM Veronika Barrabes, Ekvi Femtech CEO Cathrine Delp, and Mari Teigen reminded us that real change requires both men and women stepping up. 🍽️ We wrapped up with a wonderful Networking Reception, sponsored by Bayer Norge, where professionals across academia, health care, and big & small industry connected & celebrated. We were also treated to speeches by life science veteran & Ambassador Bjørn K. Pedersen and immunology expert & Board Member Gunnveig Grodeland, who left everyone inspired for the work ahead. 👏 A big thank you to all who attended. A big thank you to our Partners, Sponsors & Supporters! We’re just getting started, and we look forward to continuing this journey towards greater gender equality and leadership in Norwegian life sciences. *𝑴𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒏 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝒗𝒊𝒂 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒘𝒆𝒃 (𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔) 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒐𝒏!* Chelsea Ranger Cathy Capdeville Ole J.
