As the largest agri-food speciality, this requires close cooperation between the education, industry and world of science triad to meet the sector’s vision of sustainable and technology-enabled growth and to overcome the perception of poor green credentials.

Promoting Pirotski Kačkavalj cheese and educating consumers about pasta filata process at the XVI Balkan Cheese Festival by Dairy School "dr Obren Pejic" - Pirot
🎖 Prošli vikend bio je obeležen još jednim Balkan Cheese Festivalom. Ovog puta u konkurenciji za najbolji tvrdi/polutvrdi zreli sir pobedu je odneo #PirotskiKačkavalj zreo četiri meseca, od mešavine kravljeg i ovčijeg mleka, proizveden u Mlekarskoj školi sa domom učenika „dr Obren Pejić“ iz Pirota. 🎆 Iako je primarna uloga Mlekarske škole na ovom prestižnom regionalnom festivalu da promoviše renomirani srpski sir, zajedno sa ostalim partnerima Centra izvrsnosti u mlekarstvu, profesori škole „dr Obren Pejić“ prihvatili su se misije da edukuju širu populaciju potrošača. ♨ Proizvodjači pobedničkog sira su i ovog puta kao i godinama unazad demonstrirali prisutnim posetiocima najatraktivniju fazu proizvodnje Pirotskog kačkavalja – parenje „baskije“ na tradicionalan način u pletenoj korpi. 👨🎓 Na kraju da skrenemo pažnju i ovom prilikom: Kačkavalj je sir parenog testa, lisnate strukture dobijen specifičnim tehnološkim postupkom. Pirotski kačkavalj je sir koji ima zaštićenu oznaku geografskog porekla i proizvodi se u skladu sa propisanim standardom kvaliteta.

The closing date for applications for the Thermal Processing #MicroCredential has just been extended to the 25th October. This 5 credits, level 9 micro-credential was developed to provide participants with knowledge of the principles of thermal processing in the food and agri-food sectors. This 2 day course will be of interest to people working in the dairy industry looking to upskill. It would also suit those working in R&D or PhD students. The course is offered under the HCI Pillar 3 Subsidy Scheme which was introduced to enable more learners to address critical skills gaps and engage with lifelong learning. Within the scope of our ERASMUS KA-2 “EUROPEAN EXCELLENCE IN DAIRY LEARNING” project, “SOUTHERN EUROPEAN CLUSTER MEETING” was held on 10-11 October 2024, hosted by Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi. AEDIL Dairy CoVe Project Coordinator Han Zuidema, Prof. Dr. Jelena Miocinovic , Prof. Dr. Ilija Djekic , Prof. Dr. Nada Smigic and Dr. Bozidar Udovicki from Serbian Dairy CoVE MLEKOLOGIJA - Centar izvrsnosti u mlekarstvu project team, Monica Cretu and Lucica Cristina Moloci from AEDIL Dairy CoVe Romania, Cyrielle Fanget, France CoVE Project Manager from ANFOPEIL, AEDIL Dairy CoVE Türkiye Project Manager Prof. Dr. Metin Guldas, Dr. Gamze DÜVEN , Tuğba CAN and Ezgi Başçuhadar from Türkiye Süt, Et, Gıda Sanayicileri ve Üreticileri Birliği - SETBİR , Sütaş Grubu R&D Center Coordinator Ozlem KANER attended the meeting. On the first day of the meeting, the delegation visited BUU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu and BUÜ Erasmus Ofis ERASMUS Institution Coordinator Prof. Dr. Recep Yücedoğru. After the visits, the campus tour was followed by the meeting where the countries shared their activities within the scope of the project, exchanged ideas and discussed future joint activities. On the second day of the meeting, BUU KARACABEY MESLEK YÜKSEKOKULU (Karacabey Vocational School) was visited by participants. Dr. Gamze DÜVEN provided information about the Milk and Dairy Production Technology Program and its opportunities, and discussions were held about the International Milk and Dairy Farming Student Congress, which is planned to be held for the 8th time this year. After the meeting, a tour of Sütaş Grubu Karacabey facilities was organized. After two very productive days, the SOUTHERN EUROPEAN CLUSTER member countries were given meeting participation certificates. We would like to thank all our stakeholders who attended the meeting and contributed to its organization.

Another remarkable study tour from the Serbian AEDIL Dairy CoVe, this time in Dublin for the 11th International Whey Conference, "The Whey Forward" The visit included several CoVE activities: ✔️A meeting with Irish AEDILdairyCoVE representatives, Alan Kelly and Seamus O'Mahony; ✔️A poster presentation in the Consumers Preference section; ✔️Dissemination of AEDIL Dairy CoVE’s mission and results among EU and U.S. dairy experts; ✔️Gaining emerging knowledge and insights on whey products in terms of nutrition, technology, consumer preferences, and sustainability. While flying back to Belgrade, I'm reflecting on my top three highlights from the conference: 1️⃣Whey powders are at the center of food trends, as proteins are currently among the most popular food ingredients. My favorite concept is snacks enriched with whey proteins, called "snacks with benefits". However, looking "the whey forward," lactose is also rising in prominence, with growing research, such as by Thom Huppertz, supporting its recognition for functionality. 2️⃣Being a part of the Innovation Incubator project (Inovacioni inkubator - Agrino), I was inspired to realise how #whey is at the forefront of #innovation, with research expanding into areas like #InfantFormula, #AnimalFeed, #biogas, #bioplastics, #biofuels, #biopharmaceuticals (Olivia McAuliffe), as well as products like beer, mayonnaise, and tapioca. However, innovation is only truly successful when research is translated into 'pipes' (Niels Østergaard). 3️⃣ I was proud to witness how the whey processing industry and dairy researchers showed both goodwill and impressive progress in finding smart solutions to incorporate plant-based (Katherine Grasberger, PhD) and cell-based proteins (John Lucey) into the dairy realm, rather than viewing them as rivals. From the conference, the idea emerged that it’s more appropriate to call them "additional" rather than "alternative" proteins. ✴️And the final remark, we enjoyed the most wonderful sunny weather, typical for #Ireland. #wheyconference24 #Erasmus #EU #vocationalexcellence #dairyscience

Achieving mutually recognized #qualifications across #Europe and beyond requires strong collaboration and ongoing dialogue between educators and industry representatives from different countries. That's why we organized a workshop at the Forum On #VocationalExcellence in Lyon, seizing the opportunity to support Cedefop's efforts by spreading the word about the importance of defining #LearningOutcomes aligned with various #EQF levels, and putting those concepts into practice. We greatly appreciate #CoPCove's initiative to foster #collaboration between CoVEs through workshop organization, which not only initiated our partnership with the #AgriNext #CoVE team but also opened doors for future #cooperation. A big thank you to everyone who helped organize the workshop and to all the participants who chose to engage with this important topic and actively joined the discussion. In the end, it was a rewarding experience.

These days the all come together in Lyon for the 3rd Forum of Vocational Excellence. This Forum is an event by and for these Centres of Vocational Excellence, to exchange experiences, share lessons learned, inspire each other with best practices, create syngeries between sectors and cocreate solutions for common challenges in implementing their Centres of Vocational Excellence. Türkiye CoVE meeting in Ardahan We held our 2nd meeting in the Eastern Anatolia region in Göle district, which is approximately 2000 m above sea level. We would like to thank the Ardahan Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Göle District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry managers and staff for their support of the meeting. Ardahan is one of the important provinces of the Eastern Anatolia Region with approximately 30 small and medium-sized dairy farms. After the meeting, we visited the Alibey Dairy Plant in Göle and observed the famous Kashar cheese production of Kars and Ardahan provinces and tasted delicious kashar cheese varieties. Dairy sector stakeholders continue to be informed in every region of Turkiye. Within the scope of the AEDIL Dairy CoVe project, the project dissemination and recruitment meeting in Kars, located in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkiye, was held on August 12, 2024 at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Kars Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. The meeting was attended by representatives of milk producer companies and ministry staff in Kars province and surrounding districts. Kars is one of the beautiful cities of Turkiye, known for its historical and natural features, located on the border with Armenia. Kars is a city known for its traditional Kashar cheese production throughout the country. We would like to thank Kars Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Enver Aydın and all the directorate staff for their support to the meeting. At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Metin Guldas introduced the project with its importance for the country's dairy sector and explained the importance of dairy sector staff in Kars participating in online and face-to-face training to be provided by Turkiye CoVe. Prof. Dr. GÖKHAN EKREM ÜSTÜN explained the green skills that dairy sector staff should have and provided information about the obligations awaiting the dairy sector in the next 5 years in terms of environment and sustainability. Siemens food and beverage processes manager EMRAH ATALAN explained what digital skills await dairy sector staff in the coming years and the importance of digital transformation for the sector.
