🤔 What defines a scientific authorship, and why does it matter? At the next AIAS Seminar Carlsberg Foundation Monograph fellow at AIAS Brad Wray from Science Studies at Aarhus University will look closely at the ICMJE’s authorship criteria, also known as the 'Vancouver rules.' Brad will examine some of the challenges to the ICMJE criteria in order to develop a richer understanding of scientific authorship in contemporary science, and he will discuss who the ICMJE criteria are meant to exclude as authors. ALL interested are welcome to join the seminar. 🗓 WHEN: Monday 3 March 2025 at 11:00-12:00. 📍WHERE: Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 6B, DK-8000 Aarhus C - Building 1630, room 301 (3rd floor). 🔗WEB: https://lnkd.in/dxifxVfw

🤔 Interested in mediated sound, audio media and practices of ‘reading with ears’ and ‘writing with voices’ in digital communication? JOIN the next AIAS Seminar with AIAS SHAPE - Shaping Digital Citizenship Fellow Iben Have from Media Studies, School of Communication and Culture, Faculty of Arts - Aarhus Universitet. In her talk, Iben will explore examples of synthetic voices applied on Danish authorities’ public websites as text-to-speech options. Iben Have will address questions such as what these voices convey in terms of gender, age, authority, authenticity, sociality, trust, mood? Who controls them? Is the written content on public websites even suitable for being read aloud? And what are the democratic implications of these developments? ALL interested are welcome to join the seminar. 🗓 WHEN: Monday 24 February 2025 at 11:00-12:00. 📍WHERE: Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 6B, DK-8000 Aarhus C - Building 1630, room 301 (3rd floor). 🔗WEB: https://lnkd.in/d7uMRaaE

🤔 What are the molecular machines in the brain, and what do they do? In the next AIAS seminar Chao Sun, AIAS-DANDRITE Fellow, Group leader at the Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience (DANDRITE) & Associate professor at Molecular Biology & Genetics - Aarhus University will present his research on brain synapsis. An individual neuron in our brain can host over 10,000 synapses in its expansive shape - they carry out information processing and storage. In his research, Chao Sun focuses on understanding these complex and hidden challenges in building the vast number of synaptic connections that take place in the brain. ALL interested are welcome to join the seminar. 🗓 WHEN: Monday 17 February 2025 at 11:00-12:00. 📍WHERE: Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 6B, DK-8000 Aarhus C - Building 1630, room 301 (3rd floor). 🔗WEB: https://lnkd.in/dnGJaMYJ

🌴 A tropical start of the day for fellows and associates at AIAS today - February Friday Breakfast morning talk in the greenhouses of the Botanical Gardens at the Science Museerne, Aarhus Universitet. AIAS Associate fellow Wolf Eiserhardt from the Department of Biology - Aarhus University gave a splendid tour-de-force into the different climate zones present there. In his research, he is fascinated by the biodiverse tropical rainforest - it represents about half of the planet's biodiversity squeezed into 7-10 % of the land area of our Earth. We discussed the difference between a rainforest and a jungle (when human impact has taken it's toll on the rainforest), palm oil production, 2,500 palm types, cactuses and much, much more. Thank you to Wolf for guiding us, to the Science Museerne, Aarhus Universitet for hosting us 🙏🏼 and to the lovely warm tropical rainforest on a cold February morning in the North ❄️ #biodiversity #climatechange #botany #interdisciplinary #collaboration

📝 A five-month ERC-funded FRONTIERS science journalism stay of Samuel Schlaefli at AIAS has brought journalism and science in close conversation. How did it work out? AIAS has interviewed Schlaefli about his experience as a science and environmental journalist in a solely academic research environment at AIAS. A couple of reflections from Samuel Schlaefli, interesting for journalists and scientists alike: 💡 "There seems to be a constant friction between the journalists' need to compromise on nuance and context so that the story fits a certain format, and the researchers' urge to bring in nuance, context and detail to explain their area of expertise." 💡 "I felt that there was a shared understanding at AIAS that different perspectives - across disciplines and cultures - enrich research outcomes in profound ways. I think the same is true for journalism; more than ever, we should integrate perspectives from the social sciences as well as the natural sciences, from indigenous experts, local knowledge holders and academic researchers in our reporting. I am convinced that in a world of polycrises and staggering inequalities, we need more global collaboration and dialogue between different disciplines." Curious to know more about Samuel Schlaefli's stay? 🔗 Read Samuel's reflections here: https://lnkd.in/dM9uh82J It has been a pleasure to host Samuel at AIAS - thank you for contributing with several workshops and seminars on #journalism in collaboration with Constructive Institute and for joining the topical meetings and excursions at AIAS on regenerative agriculture, wetlands and water management - and so much more 🙌🏼 Thank you to the European Research Council (ERC) for funding the FRONTIERS science journalism programme in support of this invaluable interaction and exchange between science journalists and scientists to improve the dissemination and quality of knowledge for the benefit to ALL of us. 🔗https://frontiers.media/ #science #journalism #collaboration #network #dissemination #communication
