Trust 🤝 Proximity 📍 Willingness 💪 There is something unique about this region when working with health innovation. A physical proximity between companies, knowledge institutions, and the healthcare system creates a sense of interconnectedness and a shared understanding that improving our healthcare system requires the skills and drive of everyone involved. This understanding is shared by directors from Aarhus Universitet, Systematic A/S, and Aarhus Universitetshospital. Lone Ryg Olsen: "We are a close-knit society. We meet each other, we trust each other and we work together. That creates a unique energy" Mikkel Harbo: "There's a high level of trust between the public and the private actors. Public leaders and politicians are investing and taking chances on behalf of the citizens in this region and pushing innovation forward. That's one of the things that makes this area very attractive for companies to build new biotech and health tech solutions". Thomas Balle Kristensen: "We must involve businesses, health care providers, and academic institutions gathering around the large and complex problems" Thank you Healthcare Denmark for this video and for highlighting the strenghs of the Central Denmark Region.

There are many exciting ideas and insights in the Danish government’s new life science strategy 🌍💡 In fact, we think you should take the time to read the full strategy, whether you work with life science or not. Because the work done for and within our health sector concerns all of us. Whether it’s about digital solutions, organizing the innovation landscape, biotech solutions, legislation, or collaboration across sectors, regions, and borders, it’s about you, me, and all of us. Here’s a selection of statements we think are particularly worth noting - highlighting the importance of working on health innovation in the Danish health care sector 🚀 The excerpts have been translated from Danish to English. You can read the full strategy in Danish through the link below.

Where hospital logic Meets business logic 🌟 HIA-partners at Innovationsdagen 2024 🌟 At this year’s Innovationsdagen, three HIA partners were engaged in a dialogue about how cross-sector collaboration can drive innovation in the healthcare system. The event, organized by Region Midtjylland, brought together employees, managers, and directors to exchange knowledge, expand networks, and explore innovative solutions. During the dialogue “Together in Transformation and Innovation across Hospitals and Businesses,” Allan Juhl (Emento), Karen Skjerbæk Jørgensen (Trifork Digital Health) and Thomas Balle Kristensen (Aarhus Universitetshospital) discussed ways to collaborate between hospitals and businesses and what's important when working with innovation in the healthcare sector. The session started with a humorous but meaningful exchange on common stereotypes: “The companies only want to make money,” and “the hospitals are slow and hard to get in touch with.” But the key takeaway? We all want the same thing: To solve the big challenges of staff shortages, more patients, and fewer resources. Here’s a tiny snippet of what the speakers had to say: 👉 Allan Juhl: My best advice to hospital staff is: Speak up about the challenges you face. What is it you can't do but would like to? Say it out loud. You never know who might have the solution to the problem you’re facing. 👉 Karen Skjerbæk Jørgensen: We must dare to start without knowing the end goal. If we hadn't had a pandemic, we would probably still be piloting video consultations. Now it’s part of the standard operations in many hospitals. 👉 Thomas Balle Kristensen: We don't have all the necessary competencies to solve the challenges on our own. Therefore, as a region, we must open ourselves to others. It was an inspiring day filled with new ideas, collaborations, and insights into the many fantastic innovation projects taking place in Region Midtjylland. A huge applaus to Koncern HR, Udvikling, Region Midtjylland for planning, managing and launching the big Innovationsdagen rocket! 🚀 Psst - you can read more in the article in comments.

🚀 It's all about innovation! At least it is on October 23, when the doors open for 'Innovationsdagen' at FÆNGSLET in Horsens. This day, employees, clinicians, and leaders from Region Midtjylland - and other innovation enthusiasts from the ecosystem - can indulge in a wide buffet of topics, from idea workshops, language models, transformation, and AI to the power of networking and the importance of trust-based collaboration. 🤝 The last theme, collaboration, will take the stage when HIA partners Allan Juhl, CEO in Emento, Karen Skjerbæk Jørgensen, CCO in Trifork Digital Health, and Thomas Balle Kristensen, CEO at Aarhus Universitetshospital, come together for a dialogue on what happens when hospital logic meets business logic. "True health innovation only happens when we dare to break away from the traditional customer-supplier relationship and instead build mutual trust between healthcare professionals, public, and private stakeholders, where we act as one united team. To achieve that, we need to communicate. So, I look forward to the dialogue at Innovationsdagen – because it's only through this approach that we can reach a shared understanding of what we want to solve and, in turn, make innovation a part of everyday life – so it doesn’t just remain a good idea.", says Karen Skjerbæk Jørgensen. Together with moderator Diana Riknagel, they will share their curiosity and thoughts on how we can only achieve the necessary progress in the transformation of the health sector if we dare to engage in new, trustful collaborations. With a focus on opportunities and the importance of mutual trust, they will also discuss the challenges that can arise in such cross-sectoral partnerships. Although the tickets for Innovationsdagen are sold out, the opportunities to expand your horizons are not! Stay tuned for insights from the debate. The photo is from FÆNGSLET at Innovationsdagen 2022 where the theme was 'system innovation'.

Strong partnerships drive healthcare innovation forward 🤝🏃♂️ Partnerships between public institutions and private companies are at the heart of the future healthcare system. A strong ecosystem with actors from both research and business makes it possible to develop new innovative solutions that improve treatments for patients. Anders Kühnau, Chairman of the Regional Counsil at the Central Denmark Region, shares his perspective on why these partnerships are crucial and what it means to have a strong ecosystem filled with knowledge and expertise.. (You guessed it) .. Just like the one we have here in the Aarhus area 🤠 "It is important for us as a region to enter into partnerships because we can do a lot, but we cannot do everything alone. We rely on companies to help develop new solutions and continuously improve treatments for our patients, Anders Kühnau says.
Anders Kühnau: Partnerships and collaborations will make the healthcare system of the future

🏆 Aarhus Universitetshospital (AUH) continues to set new standards in digital healthcare 🏆 At Health Innovation Aarhus, we’re proud to see one of our key partners, AUH, ranked as the 12th best Smart Hospital out of 350 globally by Newsweek. AUH has made a loooong jump up the list - 7 places - from ranking 19th in 2021. This impressive leap in just a few years highlights AUH’s continuous commitment to innovation, and its position as Denmark’s top hospital in digital healthcare. - We need modern technology in a time when there is pressure on the healthcare system. One of the latest developments is the growing role of artificial intelligence in more and more clinical settings. It is important for us to work innovatively with technology, and that is why it is once again a great recognition to see that we are ranked among the world's smartest hospitals, says Hospital Director at AUH, Thomas Balle Kristensen. AUH is the spearhead of the region's work with health innovation, but fantastic solutions are also being invented at the region's other hospitals. And we do things together. Across hospitals and the broader ecosystem. And we all benefit from the fact that our region has: ✨ Concentrated world class What we have in Aarhus is something special—a concentration of world-class talent across universities, hospitals, and businesses, where research and innovation meet. This happens through close collaboration between the public and private sectors, and across primary and secondary healthcare. Our mission? To reduce illness, ensure the best treatments, and help people stay healthy. Collaboration is the key to creating lasting change in healthcare. 🏥 Documented success Every day, healthcare solutions become reality. We have numerous examples of solutions developed through partnerships that are now helping clinicians, patients, hospital finances and society. Here, research and clinical practice go hand in hand.
