By 2050, we’ll need to feed two billion more people. At the same time, food producers face ever-changing consumer demands, a challenging economic climate and increased legislative requirements. Our biosolutions help get more from less and make processes more sustainable and efficient. They enable great taste, texture and appearance with simpler, shorter labels. They extend shelf life, improve nutritional profiles and deliver novel health benefits. They also unlock new, more sustainable, protein sources. In December 2022, Novozymes and Chr. Hansen entered into an agreement to create a leading global biosolutions partner by combining the two companies. The goal was to unleash the full potential of biological solutions and generate significant value for all stakeholders and society. The combination was completed in January 2024 and Novonesis was born. Novozymes A/S, part of Novonesis Group.

    "Now that we are reaching billions of consumers, we are operating at a scale that makes a real difference." Our colleague EVP Jacob Paulsen, Food & Beverage Biosolutions, was interviewed for the 30th anniversary edition of the The World of Food Ingredients magazine by Food Ingredients First. In the interview, he talks about the status of Novonesis in the food and beverage sector: "It's an exciting time at Novonesis, and we are off to an amazing start as a recently merged company. Overall, we estimate that several billion people consume something with a Novonesis ingredient every day. This is impressive, but it also means that we have a lot of responsibility to keep innovating in this space." He also talks about the impact of our biosolutions in the fight against food waste: "Food waste is one area where we can really make a difference. In the current food production, one-third of food that has moved through processing into retail and consumer homes gets thrown away. Our biosolutions, which include enzymes and microbes, can facilitate the transition to longer product shelf lives. Currently, some of our biggest successes are in bread and yoghurt, but our solutions can be applied to most categories." It’s safe to say, this one was a slam dunk! 🍻 The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry leaders, exchange ideas, and showcase how our biosolutions can help beverage producers innovate sustainably. From crafting the perfect kombucha to enhancing brewing productivity, it was inspiring to see the industry's passion for quality and innovation. It was also a great opportunity to come together as one beverage team across legacy companies and regions – a collaboration that’s already showing incredible results. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event such a success – from developing prototypes and ensuring quality, to digital content creation, logistics, and keeping the booth running smoothly. Your efforts made it all happen! The energy and enthusiasm at BrauBeviale have been inspiring, and we’re excited to carry this momentum forward.
