Tak for i år!

  • Our Scholarship alumni Marek Kuzminski was recently nominated as a Danish Design Award finalist in the Young Ideas Category 2024. Marek was nominated for his project HandsUp, which was also the project for which he received a Bevica Scholarship Programme grant in 2023. HandsUp allows children to design and 3D print their own “super-power” prostheses, boosting self-confidence and turning disability into a source of strength. 🦸 🦾 Read more about the project here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dTwnzj4c Marek has just embarked on his Scholarship-funded research tour of India, where he will continue his investigation into how the active involvement of children with congenital upper limb differences in the design of their prosthetic devices contribute to their psychological well-being. Safe travels to you Marek – we look forward to following your work in years to come. Read more about the Bevica Scholarship Programme at 👉 www.bevicascholarship.dk.

  • 🏆 Daura van Vuuren and Louise Bøttcher were the Bevica Scholarship winners of the main grants for respectively students and lecturers in 2022. This year, they have been using their grants to travel the world doing their research. Recently, they met up in San Francisco. Daura, who explores the role of universal design in the intersectionality of disability rights and climate action has travelled across the U.S., Canada, Indonesia, Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand. She met up with her fellow-scholarship awardee Louise in San Francisco. Louise is visiting Stanford University, where she’s studying how Universal Design can be applied in higher education to include students with disabilities. “We were amazed to find so many similarities in being Bevica Scholarship travelers, even though our projects are about two different topics. The feeling of learning something new all the time; meeting very different people with an open mind; interesting and knowledgeable people - people with very different experiences - and learning from them. It is a role inherent to the Scholarship Programme, but we both felt strongly how the urge to follow the task we have each set upon ourselves with our projects has forced us to broaden our minds,” Louise reflects. Daura agrees: “The Bevica Scholarship grant has taken me all over the world, enabling me to meet experts, practitioners, and activists to gather their experiences and insights. Everywhere I go, the Scholarship Programme receives high praise for creating such a collaborative and empowering learning environment and promoting the transfer of knowledge internationally.” 🌎 Do you also want to take your research project around the world? Then apply to join the next round of the Bevica Scholarship Programme before sign-up closes on December 1st. Read more and sign up at 👉  www.bevicascholarship.dk Remember, the programme is multidisciplinary and open to all, and you do not need to have pre-existing knowledge of Universal Design. Nor do you need a fully-fledged project proposal – we will help you shape this through the programme, which includes workshops and feedback from the Universal Design Hub.

I am very proud of all "my" scholarshippers, but today I am especially proud of Marek Kuzminski who is nominated for a Danish Design Award with the project he also won his Bevica Scholarship for called "HandsUp". “HandsUp” focuses on boosting self-esteem and confidence in children by involving them in the playful design of their prostheses. This project is amazing and so is Marek. Have an amazing night, and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow and hearing all about it! I dag udkommer bogen "Universal Design in Architecture – On enabling and empowering a diverse population" af Bevica Fondens forskningsdirektør Camilla Ryhl.
