SPARQL your CORDIS experience!

Did you know that CORDIS users can use SPARQL for advanced and customized searches? SPARQL is a powerful query language and protocol used to retrieve and manipulate data stored in Resource Description Framework (RDF) format. RDF structures information in a machine-readable format, and SPARQL empowers users to efficiently explore linked data.

""

To enable SPARQL queries, CORDIS has developed the EURIO (European research information ontology) knowledge graph. This graph transforms CORDIS data into machine-readable interlinked data, encompassing research projects funded by the 7th Framework Programme, H2020 and, as from November 2024, Horizon Europe. This transformation improves the visibility, reusability and accessibility of project details.

CORDIS´s SPARQL endpoint provides access to query the EURIO Knowledge Graph contents. As the number of SPARQL query services (SPARQL endpoints) grows, with various data providers publishing linked open data, the opportunity emerges to query jointly these distributed linked open data datasets. This significantly enhances the efficiency of your searches.

For more information about SPARQL, follow this brief guide to CORDIS linked open data.

Subtitles Now Available on CORDIS Videos!

The video series “Make the connection with EU science” is a key part of the CORDIS multimedia content. These short explanatory videos present the scientific content of selected EU research projects in a way that’s easy to digest, bringing complex ideas to life for a broad audience.

""

Recently, we took a significant step to further enhance this accessibility by introducing subtitles in six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Polish. This feature not only offers translations in an additional five languages, but also makes our videos more inclusive for those with hearing difficulties along with being a practical solution when watching with sound is not an option. Additionally, these subtitles make our content machine-readable, paving the way for AI-driven knowledge sharing and wider diffusion of research insights.

Check out the latest subtitled video that explains how a dolphin´s tail can cut carbon emissions from cargo ships. Stay connected with CORDIS as we continue to bring you accessible, informative content that bridges the gap between EU research and the world.

In the spotlight

Environmental Observations for the EU Green Deal

Environmental observations, gathered from satellites, ground-based systems and citizen science campaigns, help us understand the changing Earth system. These data provide the foundation for decision-making across sectors like agriculture, fishery, local governance, and emergency services. They are also crucial for addressing the challenges outlined in the European Green Deal.

""

The EuroGEO initiative plays a key role in creating actionable ‘Earth intelligence’ that combines data from various sources, including real-time environmental observations, citizen science and socio-economic models, to improve environmental and economic performance.

The recent CORDIS Results Pack on Environmental Observations for the EU Green Deal highlights 11 Horizon research projects that help businesses meet the EU Green Deal targets. These projects include initiatives that support sustainable agriculture and forestry,  enhance wildfire management or focus on creating digital twins and predictive tools to better understand and respond to climate impacts, showcasing how environmental observations are essential to building a sustainable and resilient future for Europe.
