No Bail for Chinmoy Das: Bangladesh Court rejects former ISKCON monk's bail for second time
Kolkata: After Iskcon monk Chinmoy Krishna Das' bail rejection in a Bangladesh court today, Iskcon Vice-President Radharaman Das said on Thursday that the rejection of bail of Chinmoy Krishna Das is very unfortunate as a monk’s place is not in jail.

“The bail was rejected at a time when even the global community expected his bail. We will wait and see what the lawyers decide,” the Iskcon Vice President and spokesperson said.

Speaking on Bangladesh court's decision regarding the bail plea of monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, Radharaman Das said, "The eyes of the world were on today’s hearing in Bangladesh for Chinmoy Das's bail plea. Today 10-11 lawyers were also under scrutiny globally. The hope is that these lawyers will be able to present their arguments and fight for his cause.”

“We are aware that the previous lawyers representing him had been threatened in various ways. Some lawyers’ homes and chambers were vandalized and they were physically attacked. We hope that present lawyers, who will appear before the High Court, will be provided with adequate security by the Bangladesh government, both inside and outside the court..." Das said. Iskcon sources said that they are worried about the health of the monk.

Meanwhile, the septuagenarian advocate Rabindra Ghosh, who had moved bail plea for Chinmoy Krishna, has been admitted in a hospital in Kolkata's SSKM with multiple ailments.

However, Ghosh has created a panel of 25 lawyers who fought for the monk in Bangladesh today, people in the know told ET. Ghosh expressed desire to defend Chinmoy Krishna Das on January 2 and will move the Supreme Court in Dhaka if needed. When no lawyer was ready to defend Das, Ghosh had moved Chattogram court to get the bail hearing preponed. But he was prevented from moving a bail petition.

"We were apprehensive about the bail. However, we never thought that humanity would be violated. We were worried Chinmoy Krishna Das may fall ill. We are discussing moving to an international court," a Hindu monk of Bharat Sevasram Sangha Kartick Maharaj said.

“In a major setback for the Bangladeshi Hindu Community and the members of the Sanatani Community across the world who are concerned about the human rights of Bangladeshi Hindus, the bail plea of revered Hindu Monk; Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu was rejected today by the Chattogram Court...The entire world is keeping an eye on the situation and prolonging the imprisonment deliberately is a clear human right violation,” Leader of Opposition in state assembly Suvendu Adhikari said.
