The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) app and website were down on Thursday morning. Many social media users complained that they were unable to book tickets.

Users could see 'unable to perform action due to maintainance activity' error upon opening the app or the website.

Complaining about the outage, one person tweeted: "@RailMinIndia @AshwiniVaishnaw @PMOIndia when this fraud will stop , always at 10am irctc website crashes and when you open again all tatkal tickets get booked but only premium tickets with double prices are available, this is clear scam by @IRCTCofficial @raghav_chadha".

"It is 10:11am ... still IRCTC is not opening.... IRCTC should be enquired and checked... definitely scams are happening. By the time it opens all the tickets are gone...," another one added on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

"India reached the moon, but the Indian Railways ticket booking app can't handle Tatkal booking without crashing. It's 2024, and a stable server shouldn't be rocket science!" a third person said.

This is the second time IRCTC is facing an outage this month. The e-ticketing platform underwent a one-hour maintenance on December 9. Today's outage caused outrage among passengers who were trying to book tatkal tickets, which can be made one day before the train's departure from the originating station. The timings are: AC classes - Booking starts at 10 am and non-AC classes - Booking starts at 11 am.
