  • Estonian Defence Cluster Introduces the Baltic Drone Wall Concept to Strengthen the EU Eastern Border   The threat landscape has changed, and Europe is facing security risks like never before. Protecting borders is no longer just about defending against conventional threats, but also proactively preventing emerging risks, such as hostile drones. The growing use of drones as an offensive tool has become a major security concern. The war in Ukraine has demonstrated how drones—both military and commercial off-the-shelf UAVs—are key weapons for attacks and targeting critical infrastructure with devastating effect. Considering the Baltic region more than 1100 km long border with Russia, actions how to strengthen the EU eastern border are needed and can be achieved in private and public cooperation.   The Baltic Drone Wall Concept by the Estonian Defence Cluster is initiated by the DefSecIntel Solutions based on their counter-UAS (C-UAS) solution EIRSHIELD.    The Drone Wall is an opportunity for defence and security companies to contribute innovative and effective solutions that can be rapidly deployed and manufactured in the Baltic region to counter potential threats. Together, we can strengthen Europe’s borders and ensure security against evolving threats.

In the last week of January, Rene Ehasalu, the cluster manager of Defence Estonia, together with the Minister of Defence and representatives of nine Estonian defence industry companies, visited South Korea and Japan for four days. Since both Estonian, South Korean and Japanese defence industry companies are high-tech oriented, the aim of the visit was to create new contacts in addition to existing ones and find opportunities for cooperation between the defence industries. In South Korea, the delegation visited one of the country's leading defence industry companies, Hanwha Aerospace. In Japan, several meetings took place and a seminar organised by good partners JADI and ATLA aimed at introducing investment and cooperation opportunities with the Japanese government and large corporations. Special thanks are due to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, especially Estonian Embassy in Seoul and Tokyo, who hosted business delegation and help to put together agenda.
