🏭 Egypt's marble sector: Experts convene to enhance decent work 🏭 As part of the International Labour Organization's (ILO) project "Productivity Ecosystems for Decent Work in Egypt," the project team conducted a field visit to Shaq El Thaban to assess the marble sector. The visit included Marlen de la Chaux, Technical Officer for Productivity and Working Conditions from ILO HQ in Geneva; Nashwa Belal, PE4DW Project Manager; and Valentina Verze, Enterprise Development and Job Creation Specialist, both from the ILO Cairo Office, alongside consultants, experts, and sector programme officials. During the visit, discussions focused on improving working conditions and productivity in this vital sector, as part of a comprehensive plan to enhance its contribution to Egypt’s economy. The PE4DW project is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, with funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation - Cairo Office. The project aims to address and improve the factors driving productivity and decent work conditions in two key industrial sectors in Egypt: marble and leather tanning, with plans to expand to the furniture sector at a later stage.
