They said it wouldn’t work. They doubted us. Some even laughed at the idea. But here we are — two years later — with an award-winning project right in the heart of #Malaga Spain. Back then, getting the license for this project was a big challenge as no one was willing to approve such a project. People couldn’t see the vision. The idea of reusing wastewater to irrigate plants on a facade was too much - They called it crazy, unrealistic, or just impossible. But today, this Vertical Ecosystem has become more than we ever dreamed of. It’s not just a green wall — it’s a landmark. It’s been nationally and internationally recognized, even winning Spain’s top sustainability award in the hotel sector from the Ministry of Tourism. We can’t tell you how much joy it brings us to maintain this living, breathing ecosystem. Every time we’re out there, We are reminded of how intelligent nature really is. And the best part? This isn’t just a beautiful wall. It’s a home for birds, a sanctuary for urban wildlife, and a spot that makes the city a little more alive. Seeing how much it’s touched both people and nature—it’s hard to put that feeling into words. This whole journey is proof that even small, bold ideas can spark something much bigger. If you’re curious about what’s possible with Nature Based solutions, join us at BIOTONOMY. Let’s make our cities work for both people and nature. #biotonomy #urbangreening #naturebasedsolutions

700 years ago, humans cooled entire buildings by 12°C—in the middle of the desert—without electricity. And it still works today. Long before air conditioners, the ancient city of Yazd in Iran mastered one of the most brilliant Nature Based Cooling Systems ever invented. They didn’t rely on machines. They relied on nature—using Wind Towers (Badgir in Farsi) and underground water channels (Qanats) to create a Nature Based air-conditioning system in the middle of the desert. Here’s the mind-blowing part: ◾ They captured the wind, funneled it underground, and cooled it by up to 12°C. ◾ All without energy consumption, using only the intelligence of nature. ◾ They even used this system to make ice ❄️ in the desert. For the past 15 years, at BIOTONOMY we have implemented this 700-year-old technology in our projects—and the results leave us speechless every single time. The question isn’t whether ancient wisdom is still relevant - it’s how we can integrate it into our modern cities. Like this post? People in cities are 40% more likely to feel depressed than people who live in the countryside. Why? Because cities don’t have enough nature. ☘ In cities, we’re surrounded by buildings, noise, and stress. There aren’t enough trees, plants, or fresh air to help us feel calm and happy. Even spending a little time in nature can make a big difference. It can lower stress, improve your mood, and help your mental health. But here’s the problem: cities are crowded, and there’s not much space left for big parks or forests. So, what’s the solution? 🌱 Vertical Urban Parks. These are parks built upwards instead of spreading out. They turn empty walls or unused spots into beautiful green spaces. Here’s why they’re great: ◼ Better mental health: A quiet, green place to relax and feel better. ◼ Bringing people together: Spaces for the community to connect and bond. ◼ Healthier air: Plants clean the air, reduce noise, and cool down cities naturally. ◼ More balance: They bring back plants, animals, and a touch of nature to busy city life. Vertical Urban Parks make cities healthier and happier places to live by adding more nature where it’s needed most. Would you like to see this in your city? Share your city name in the comments! 👇 #Biotonomy #GreenCities #HealthyLiving

Cities are wasting millions fighting storms — yet they're ignoring nature's secret weapon against floods. Why spend millions on concrete walls when nature already holds the solution? In our race to protect coastlines from storms, we have forgotten a powerful solution that's been defending coasts for centuries - Mangroves. Mangroves are resilient coastal trees and shrubs with dense roots that grow in salty, tidal waters, providing critical protection for shorelines, wildlife, and communities. Here's why we should use Nature Based Solutions like Mangroves: 1️⃣ Natural Coast Guards: Mangroves reduce water speeds by up to 92% and wave heights by up to 66%, significantly reducing storm damage. 2️⃣ Carbon storage champions: They can absorb up to 31.3 million tons of CO2 each year — that's like taking 6.8 million cars off the road & 4x more than tropical forests. 3️⃣ Prevent erosion Mangroves have dense roots that hold the soil together, protecting coastlines from washing away even during storms. 4️⃣ Wildlife havens: Mangroves are home to thousands of fish and protect endangered animals. They're helping provide 80% of the seafood we eat. 5️⃣ Protecting Communities: Mangroves help protect 15 million people from coastal flooding and prevent $65 billion in damages every year. But because of human activities, 50% of mangroves are at risk of disappearing. 👉 Watch the video to see how these Nature Based Solutions can protect our coasts. And if you believe in the power of Nature Based Solutions like us at BIOTONOMY, then be part of the solution by sharing this solution, and let's inspire more cities to use them! #Biotonomy #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateResilience

The food you eat from supermarkets is slowly making you sicker. 70% of global deaths are now due to chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. It’s not just bad luck—it’s the chemicals in our food. 🚫 Glyphosate use in farming has increased by 300% in the last 25 years - stripping nutrients from our soil and bleeding into everything we eat. But here’s the thing: You have the power to change this. 🌱 Growing your own food in Autonomous Homes has never been easier. This is the way to take back control of your health, your food, and your future. The time to act is now - Join us and learn more BIOTONOMY #biotonomy #GrowYourOwnFood #Wellbeing

This isn’t a green roof — it’s proof we’ve been doing it all wrong. While most buildings turn their back on nature, this project in Denmark completely reimagines how homes and nature can coexist. Inspired by the surrounding landscape, it’s designed to connect people with nature — and with each other. 🌿 A place where students, researchers, and seniors come together, fostering a diverse and vibrant community. Here’s why it’s a game-changer: 1️⃣ Rainwater Collection: Captures rainwater to irrigate plants, easing pressure on the sewage system. 💧 2️⃣ Mixed Community: Students, researchers, and seniors living together, creating a truly inclusive environment. 3️⃣ Energy-Efficient Air System: Reuses 90% of energy from outgoing air to heat fresh air, significantly reducing waste. 4️⃣ Recycled Materials: Built with sustainable materials to support a circular economy, especially in its facade. 🌍 With 640 apartments and an 800-meter public walkway that winds along its curved roof, this project is a global benchmark for integrating Nature-Based Solutions. 🌳 Big applause to Kragh Berglund Landscape Architecture and Lars Gitz Architects for pushing the boundaries. 🙌 Projects like this deserve our support and recognition. Let’s share and advocate designs that bring nature back into our cities. #Biotonomy #NatureBasedSolutions #GreenArchitecture #SustainableCities #UrbanDesign
