We are thrilled to share that the Building Resilient - ICITECH team has successfully completed outstanding laboratory tests. 💪 🌟 🚧 The tests involved subassemblies representing a critical part of a building. To simulate extreme conditions, we used three hydraulic jacks to replicate collapse scenarios. Over 100 sensors were used to gather extensive data. 🔌 👷♀️ 👷♂️ A big thank you to the entire team for their hard work, dedication, and expertise in making this possible. Closing 2024 with this success fills us with pride and energy for the next stage of the #Endure project. 🚀 Let’s keep building resilience together 🏗️🔬 Happy New Year!! ✨ 🥂 🎄 European Research Council (ERC) #Endure #EUfunded #Horizon2020

Improving the resilience of buildings and bridges | Mejoramos la resiliencia de edificios y puentes
Sobre nosotros
The Building Resilient research group performs research within the framework of the Concrete Science and Technology Institute (ICITECH) of the Universitat Politècnica de València and aim to improve the resilience of our society by making buildings and bridges more resilient. Our combined basic and applied research focuses on the structural engineering field. We work in the following thematic areas: 1) Structural retrofitting 2) Structural assessment 3) Learning from failures 4) Progressive collapse and robustness Our research is usually associated with ambitious experimental campaigns, including many on full-scale structures. We combine basic and applied research, with a high degree of transfer to industry.

🚧 Exciting times ahead for #Endure project! We are all set to conduct our subassembly test, which represents a section of a reinforced concrete building, complete with its columns, beams, and slab. 🔧 We will simulate the collapse using two hydraulic jacks, and to ensure we capture every detail, we have over 110 sensors and more than 4 cameras ready to document the process. ➡️ Stay tuned for updates on this groundbreaking test! We would like to share our recently published work on Structures. In this study, we proposed a methodology to evaluate the robustness of RC building structures by combining practical modelling strategy and appropriate robustness indexes. Four indexes (reserve-based) proposed in the literature were investigated and compared systematically for three hypothetical building designs. Using multiple indexes, we are able to get a more holistic view of system performance compared to relying solely on a single index, as traditionally done. Lastly, we demonstrated the practical use of the methodology for two case studies: 1) estimating component damage levels and 2) evaluating and selecting various retrofitting solutions to improve structural robustness. We believe this article is suitable not only for academics/researchers but also for practising engineers. The step-by-step example we provided in the article to perform modelling calibration and robustness index quantification can be helpful for practitioners to support decisions on the design of new buildings and the assessment of existing ones.
