Modern yacht navigation systems are pushing the boundaries of precision, safety, and efficiency with several groundbreaking technologies. Augmented Reality (AR) overlays are now integrated into bridge systems, displaying essential data—like depth contours, buoys, and other vessel positions—on top of the natural view from the helm. This provides captains and crews with intuitive, real-time situational awareness, particularly useful in low-visibility conditions or complex seascapes. Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems have been refined with AI capabilities to maintain a vessel’s position with optimal energy use. These systems automatically adjust thrusters based on environmental factors, reducing fuel consumption while holding position accurately, which is especially beneficial for anchoring near sensitive ecosystems or during precise docking manoeuvres. Cloud-connected chart-plotters are another key innovation, offering continuously updated charts and real-time access to weather, tide information, and navigational adjustments. These systems improve route planning and provide flexibility to adapt routes based on the latest environmental data. Enhanced AIS (Automatic Identification System) technology now includes route prediction, risk assessment, and integration with onboard alarms, giving crews immediate insights into nearby vessel movements and early alerts for collision avoidance, a crucial feature in high-traffic areas. The upgrade included high-definition Power-over-Ethernet PTZ cameras with precision pan, tilt, and zoom capabilities for superior surveillance coverage. Solid-state drives were integrated for reliable, high-capacity video storage, ensuring seamless recording and long-term durability. Dual HD control stations were installed in strategic locations, providing the crew with intuitive real-time monitoring and playback functionality. This modern CCTV system was seamlessly integrated into the yacht's existing network infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency and accessibility. The new VMG shipyard is poised to redefine refit and repair standards with advanced infrastructure designed specifically for large-scale superyachts. This facility will be equipped to support every technical and engineering aspect of refits, from state-of-the-art communication systems to complex navigation and power management upgrades.
