Statement on Syria: A Historic Opportunity for a Stable and Peaceful Future Friday, December 13, 2024 - After 14 years of conflict, recent developments offer a glimmer of hope that the suffering endured by the Syrian people may soon come to an end, and that the world’s largest forced displacement crisis can progress towards equitable solutions. The people of Syria now face a historic opportunity to establish a stable and peaceful future. There exists a significant chance for Syria to advance towards peace, allowing its citizens to begin their return home. However, given the ongoing uncertainties, millions of refugees are cautiously evaluating the safety of their return. While some express eagerness, others remain apprehensive. At this pivotal moment, Syria has the potential to conclude over a decade marked by loss of life, suffering, and oppression, alongside severe damage to the nation’s economy, infrastructure, and human resources. Throughout this time, Syrians have been deprived of any genuine opportunity for development. I call upon all parties to refrain from further violence, to prioritize the protection of civilians, and to take immediate action to ensure that this moment serves as a turning point towards hope, recovery, and enduring peace and stability for the Syrian populace. The Syrian people aspire for development, a peaceful nation, employment opportunities, and an end to all forms of violence and conflict. Furthermore, I encourage all stakeholders in Syria to embrace my Global Peace 2030 agenda and work collaboratively towards creating a peaceful nation in the world. In conflict-affected regions, redirect funding from military assistance to support industrial and agricultural development, thereby reducing youth engagement in violence due to unemployment.

End Violence Against Women and Empower Communities for a Safer Future. Stop violence against women.

Tuesday, November 12, 2024 - Israel has continued its brutal offensive on Gaza. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening every day and the lives of more than three million Palestinians remain at extreme risk. These operations must stop. More than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 100,000 people have been wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7, 2023. The Europe Peace Foundation (EPF) urges Israel to end its military operation in Gaza immediately. This horrific violence must stop immediately. Enough is enough. This must stop now. “Urgent action is needed to protect civilians and prevent further staggering levels of human suffering. Civilians and the infrastructure they rely on – including hospitals, shelters, and schools – must be protected. We urge the international community to come together to demand an immediate humanitarian ceasefire by all parties in the conflict and lasting peace in Israel and Palestine.
