📣 Our paper "BiFold: Bimanual Cloth Folding with Language Guidance" has been accepted to #ICRA2025 (19–23 May 2025 in Atlanta)! BiFold takes an RGB image + a language instruction and predicts a bimanual folding action, executed with two grippers 🤖 👐 Instead of relying on depth images, which are color invariant but noisy, BiFold uses a fine-tuned SigLIP (pretrained on large-scale vision-language data), leading to strong generalization across fabrics/textures/and even domains. Color provides key manipulation cues and pretrained models allow using them as they are not brittle to appearance changes! 🌈 ✨ BiFold conditions the predicted actions on previous keyframes, boosting the performance with respect to its version without context. This allows for a better understanding of the cloth state over time (which can get tricky to infer from a single image of a crumpled cloth!) 👀 📸 There were no datasets to learn such a model-so we built one! We annotated the VR-Folding dataset (https://lnkd.in/dZWtWnmr), which includes human folding demonstrations recorded using a Virtual Reality setup. We parsed the actions and used the gripper trajectories on the per-cloth category NOCS space to generate an aligned language instruction.
