🌍 Today, the #Environment Committee of the European Parliament debated the #WaterResilience Strategy, stressing the need for a #WaterSmartSociety where the true value of water is recognised and leveraged for sustainability, resilience, and security. The draft report from Thomas Bajada is going is the right direction - demonstrating the leadership of the EU Parliament on water. An EU Water Strategy must strengthen our #qualityoflife, #competitiveness, #strategicautonomy and #foodsecurity, building in innovative solutions. 🚀 Now is the time to act! Let's: ✅ Empower solution providers in Europe to develop and deploy cutting-edge water innovations, particularly for alternative water such as #waterreuse. ✅ Leverage the power of #Digitalisation & #AI for smarter water management, including interoperability. ✅ Ensure the right incentives and frameworks drive #WaterEfficiency. ✅ Address emerging challenges like #DBPs & #PFAS to protect public health. ✅ Implement and strengthen the existing #WaterFrameworkDirective. This strategy requires investment - as Water Europe mentioned in its position, 255bn euro are needed only to upgrade infrastructure. the next #MFF should have a dedicated line for water. Yes, it’s a challenge—the #EU’s competence is water quality, but we need a holistic approach. 💡 The EU has always turned crises into opportunities—this time, let’s anticipate, innovate, and lead! Let's build a Water Smart Europe!

🌍 #LivingLab Meeting at the #EmiliaRomagnaRegion 🌍 On February 7, 2025, the Emilia Romagna #LivingLab of #MAR2PROTECT hosted a key event at the University of Bologna, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, researchers from the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, and representatives of Gruppo Hera. 🔬🌊 Together, they co-designed and planned the upcoming #SocietalEngagementActivities for the Emilia-Romagna LivingLab. The session followed the method delivered by professor Uta Wehn from the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. The planned initiatives aim to empower #LocalCommunities by enhancing their understanding of #WaterContamination risks and providing them with the tools to take proactive action. 🌊 News from Lima River Estuary Demosite! #Mar2Protect launched its first #CivilSocietyActivity, led by the Living Lab of the Lima River Estuary demosite. Organized by our partner CIIMAR, in collaboration with CMIA Viana do Castelo and Santa Maria Maior Secondary School, this initiative brought science into the field!
