Antimicrobial nanostructured biomaterials for complex wound healing. #Horizon funded project under GA no. 101092269 🇪🇺
Sobre nosotros
Complex wounds, such as chronic wounds, are highly susceptible to microbial infection and biofilm formation, and thus difficult to treat. The most common antimicrobial products to treat these infections are based on silver. However, they have several economic, environmental and safety drawbacks. The Horizon Europe project NABIHEAL, coordinated by the Center for Biomedical Research Network (CIBER) at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), will offer a safer, more sustainable and more cost-effective alternative by obtaining innovative multifunctional wound healing biomaterials using affordable EU-based manufacturing technologies. In the long term, NABIHEAL could become a game-changing alternative to silver in wound healing dressings. The goals of the project will be tackled by an interdisciplinary consortium from 7 countries, combining expertise in different areas, such as synthesis and characterization of biomaterials, biocompatibility and safety, regulatory aspects and ethics, or wound healing product development and scale-up. In addition to the Center for Biomedical Research Network (CIBER) at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB), as coordinator, the international consortium is formed by the following centers and companies: from Spain, the Center for Biomedical Research Network (CIBER) at the University of Extremadura and the University of Cantabria, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Nanomol Technologies S.L. (NT), Bioiberica S.A.U (BIO), Histocell S.L (HCELL), the University of Granada (UGR), and Asphalion (ASPH); from Germany, MyBiotech GmbH (MyB) and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin (CH); from Croatia, the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health (IMI); from Denmark, the Aarhus University (AU); from Israel, the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (IT); from Austria, BioNanoNet Forschungsgesellschaft mbH (BNN); and from Slovenia, the University of Maribor (UM).

Wound healing goes to Switzerland! Johanna K. Scheper, PhD, MBI of BNN - BioNanoNet presented NABIHEAL at the #SSbD24 Conference in Monte Verità, Switzerland 🏔️ this week. Her poster "The Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design approach for alternative metal-free wound dressings in NABIHEAL" explains the work of BNN with partners to ensure that the wound dressings developed in the project take human safety as well as economic, social and environmental sustainability into account.

Huge thanks to Sergio Veiga from our partner ASPHALION for organizing this impactful internal workshop for NABIHEAL and PHOENIX OITB projects! It was a great benefit to all our project partners to dive deep into the regulatory topic. Special thanks to all the speakers, too!
📌 NABIHEAL/PHOENIX | Regulatory Workshop ↪ Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting an insightful workshop in #Barcelona at the CSIC - Residència d´investigadors, focused on the #regulatoryframework for products containing #nanomaterials. The event provided a valuable opportunity for discussions with key #stakeholders from the #EUfunded projects NABIHEAL and PHOENIX OITB and featured important contributions from BSI and the Nanotechnology Industries Association. ▶ During the #workshop, we reviewed and discussed major #regulatoryprocesses and #guidelines for the approval and commercialization of #medicaldevices and #medicinalproducts that incorporate #nanoparticles. We also explored the applicability of additional guidelines for other #nanomaterial-containing products, including #chemicals, #food, and #cosmetics. 🙌🏽 A special thank you to #BSI (especially Godwill Iheagwaram and Pilar Maldonado), Blanca Suarez-Merino (#NanotechnologyIndustriesAssociation), Fran Rodríguez Gómez, PhD from ASPHALION, and Daniel García Molinero (BNN) for their invaluable contributions and #expertise, which made this workshop a #success! 📧 Contact us for further information: info@asphalion.com #Nanotechnology #RegulatoryFramework #Nanomaterials #NabiHeal #Phoenix #MedicalDevices #Pharmaceuticals #BSI #HORIZON #NanotechnologyIndustriesAssociation #BNN #Asphalion #RA #RegulatoryAffairs #WeAreAsphalion #WeCare #KnowledgeFromExperience https://bit.ly/40wzZOM

Our partners Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and BNN - BioNanoNet presented NABIHEAL at #NanoTox2024. Fiorenza Rancan presented "Ex vivo skin models for the assessment of dermal nanotoxicity", and Julia Voglhuber-Höller had a poster pitch on "The Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design approach for alternative metal-free wound dressings in NABIHEAL". Watch the video to get an impression of the dynamic event in Venice!
Catch a glimpse of #NanoTox2024 in Venice with our video! The 11th International Conference on NanoToxicology took place September 23-25, 2024, in the historic center of #Venice at Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli. The scientific conference, organised jointly by the three NMBP-16 EU funded projects DIAGONAL, HARMLESS and h2020 SUNSHINE attracted around 250 participants from research and academic institutions, as well as from industry, governmental agencies, and experts from Europe, the United States, Africa and Asia. The conference provided a valuable platform for convening leading experts focused on the challenges related to safe and sustainable multicomponent nanomaterials (MCNM) by developing novel tools for evaluating human and environmental hazards, alongside strategies for #nanomaterial characterization, classification, grouping, and read-across for risk analysis and #sustainability assessment. We are proud of our colleagues Susanne Resch and Beatriz Alfaro Serrano for co-organizing the conference alongside their great time!

European Researchers' Night is always a rewarding opportunity to bring scientific concepts to the general public. This year, our partners BNN - BioNanoNet in Graz introduced the public - on 2 legs and 4! - to nanotechnologies in daily life. They also brought samples of #biomaterials and explained how NABIHEAL is developing novel #woundhealing materials to help treat patients suffering from #ChronicWounds. By the end of the night, their treats were almost gone, they had been awarded many stickers from appreciative attendees, and they got some help at the booth from Brandy 🐶 #ERN2024 Life is Science
