How can we design healthy cities for people and the planet? This question was posed by Alexander Gutzmer in the panel discussion at the ICONIC AWARDS 2024: Innovative Archicture awards ceremony in Munich. Four experts shared their approaches and ideas: 🔹 Andrea Zickhardt from Holzer Kobler Architekturen illustrated how architecture can promote social interaction. Her project ‘Erlebnis Hus St. Peter Ording’ shows how integrative planning can be possible. 🔹 While Tina Kortmann from UNStudio emphasised that healthy cities should be vital, diverse and inclusive, as demonstrated by the ‘FOUR Frankfurt’ high-rise ensemble currently under construction in Frankfurt am Main. 🔹 Wei Wu from gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects addressed the challenges for healthy urban development in China due to the growing number of inhabitants and high population density in the cities. 🔹 Claus Thiemann explained how Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos not only preserved historical contexts but also created new public open spaces when remodelling the Blockhaus in Dresden. The experts agree: a healthy city must be lively, inclusive and flexible. Last but not least, the winners of the ICONIC AWARDS 2024: Innovative Architecture offer a wide range of solutions to tackle the challenges of the future in a targeted manner.
