Last days! If you happen to be in Barcelona you can't miss our solo exhibition by Richard Wentworth! On view until November 23. Richard Wentworth’s work has reshaped the traditional definitions of sculpture and photography since the late 1970s, establishing the artist as a key figure in the New British Sculpture. Wentworth speaks about the way materials and objects migrate, their meanings merge, separate and reconvene. By transforming and manipulating objects, Wentworth pays attention to their form and function, their materiality and etymology, broadening our understanding of them by breaking the conventional system of classification. This exhibition presents a compendium of fundamental gestures within Wentworth's practice. _ 📸 @roberto_ruiz_photography #RichardWentworth #BarcelonaGalleryWeekend @barcelona_gallery_weekend @artbarcelona_galleries #PratsNoguerasBlanchard #sculpture #opening

Caio Reisewitz pays tribute to the forest with a 12 x 4.5-meter work on the glass wall at the entrance of @staedtische_galerie_offenburg Caio Reisewitz is one of twelve artists featured in the exhibition 'O(H) WALD', opening on November 9, which explores themes related to the natural environment. His new collage work, printed on low-emission UV foil, addresses the destruction of the tropical rainforest by industry, offering the perspective of a non-European artist. “By vultures,” he laments, “who use raw materials for their own interests.” The artist combines greatly enlarged sections of his own nature photographs with images from the media and historical archives, such as a reduced image of the São Paulo skyline or scenes of forest fires. Protecting the forest has been a central theme in his work for 25 years. Through his art, he critiques the ongoing exploitation of nature due to human intervention. The piece reflects the forest’s beauty but also includes elements that evoke destruction. * 'Utucuhy', 2024. _ 📸 @roberto_ruiz_photography #PratsNoguerasBlanchard #JoseMariaSicilia #AperturaMadrid #MadridGalleryWeekend #artemadrid @arte_madrid @culturagob @culturacmadrid @turismocmadrid @acecultura @cervezasalhambra @madrid_secreto @iac_artecontemporaneo

Art Basel Paris Oct 16 - Oct 20, 2024 Grand Palais. Booth F04 🖼️ Hannah Collins: 'Emmer Sewell - the yard 3', 2018 Silver gelatin print. 131 × 161 × 3 cm (framed) British artist Hannah Collins is known for her large unframed photographs that create immersive spatial experiences, and installations that involve film and sound. She gained international recognition in the 1980s. Her works reflect on the fleeting nature of the present and convey the emotional and psychological aspects of spaces steeped in cultural and social history. From 2000, Hannah Collins began to introduce film and video often projected over multiple screens incorporating constructed musical soundtracks. She has maintained a performative element in her work and has expanded her interest in those people and places who inhabit the limit or margins of society and in the future of the human species. Her still images are often located between documentation and precise acted performance. Migration and modern attempts to improve our vision of the future have been subjects in recent works including 'The Fertile Forest' (2015) a work made in the Colombian Amazon with a Cofan tribal group, 'I will make up a Song' (2018) and 'The Earth Beneath My Feet' (2022). _ See you this week! Art Basel Paris Oct 16 - Oct 20, 2024 Grand Palais. Booth F04 🖼️ Anne-Lise Coste: 'Vessels VI', 2019. Oil on canvas. 167,5 × 123,5 cm Anne-Lise Coste is known for her radical approach, in which the creative potential of her art is articulated in the spontaneous gesture and what is directly said, written and painted. In her works, Coste opposes the standardization of art and uncompromisingly points out the fleeting nature of the moment. Drawing plays a fundamental role in Anne-Lise Coste's work, through which she creates a universe based on her imagination and idiosyncratic codes. In 'Vessels', Coste adds a performative element, using her own body to outline forms, much like Ana Mendieta did in her 'Silueta' series. This approach blends primal rituals with sentimental archaeology. The disjointed condition of trying to see what one wishes to represent drives Coste's creation, resulting in repeated figures that convey an emotional resonance. Her hand is visible in the tracing of these bodies, revealing her presence in works filled with immense solitude, blending melancholy with poetic sensitivity. _ See you next week! Art Basel Paris Oct 16 - Oct 20, 2024 Grand Palais. Booth F04 🖼️ Francesco Arena: 'Granito con minuto (triangolo)', 2022 Granite, magnetic tape. 94,6 × 94,6 × 2 cm Francesco Arena measures collective, national and personal histories to create his work, in particular from the political and social events that have characterized the recent past. Episodes which have often been hidden or silenced, take on a new life thanks to the synthetic and metaphorical forms of his sculptures. Arena’s research is centered around ways of thinking about temporality, questioning the notion of history, by revealing irruptions in the course of things that seem to conform to a linear development marked by causes and effects. Arena often combines materials that differ in terms of substance and durability “because only by bringing them together, does the work become complete”. _ See you next week! Featuring works by Francesco Arena, Mercedes Azpilicueta, Hannah Collins, Anne-Lise Coste, Joan Hernández Pijuan, Ana Mendieta, Wilfredo Prieto and José María Sicilia. Art Basel Paris Oct 16 - Oct 20, 2024 Grand Palais. Booth F04 🖼️ Wilfredo Prieto: 'Cenizas de confeti', 2023. Confetti and vase with lid. 25,5 × 18 × 18 cm Wilfredo Prieto’s work indistinctly implements installation, video or performance, proposing spaces for reflection around power, the paradoxes of social relations and the effect and incidence of economic and political fluctuations. At the same time, he handles a peculiar poetics of scale, giving meaning to the magnitude of an object and the banality of a gesture. His work questions the basic structures of contemporary culture and reflects on consumption, society and thought itself. His actions move between the subtle and the obvious, an invitation to distance ourselves from common experiences. Wilfredo Prieto appropriates the world around him to shape ideas with radical, precarious and fragile gestures. Through his work he presents metaphors that are crystallized in everyday objects and recognizable materials of everyday life. _ See you next week!
