Commissioned and co-produced by Centraal Museum Utrecht and Sea Design Lab, this participatory performance uses SEAQUAL YARN threads to symbolize the perilous Central Mediterranean migration route. Every thread, made from upcycled marine plastic, tells a story of resilience, transformation, and connection—bridging art, sustainability, and humanity. Nadia's work invites us to reflect on the Mediterranean as both a site of cultural exchange and a hazardous border, highlighting the urgent need for solutions to plastic pollution and safer migration paths. A true circular story. Discover the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE Collection Point in Tunisia in this short documentary. Omar Kcharem, the collection point manager, shares its journey from the beginning, how 7,000 tons of plastic are collected annually, and the transformation from waste to SEAQUAL MARINE PLASTIC. 🌊♾️ 📸 This documentary was filmed by a local team in June 2024. 🎬Last week, we were in Cairo documenting the journey of plastic waste: from its collection by fishermen in the Nile, sorting with the help of VeryNile and the shredding and cleaning of bottles (SEAQUAL MARINE PLASTIC), to its transformation into monofilament, which Grupo Maya uses to produce their brooms. 💙A heartfelt thank you to Alban, Menna, and the entire Very Nile team for your warm hospitality.
