He also supports EOSE’s long-term analysis of the European paid and volunteer sport workforce. Prior to joining EOSE, he worked on many professional assignments in Africa, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent on behalf of governments, the United Nations and the World Bank. Transforming youth sport for inclusion through positive coaching ⤵︎ Coaching Plus is an #ErasmusPlus project dedicated to making sport more inclusive and empowering for young athletes. Sport offers countless benefits — not only for physical and mental health, but also for social skill-building, character development, and creating a positive self-image. Yet, for youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, the path to these benefits can often be blocked. 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗣𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁. By promoting innovative coaching methodologies centred on pedagogy, inclusion, and role-modelling, we aim to: ✅ Make sport a welcoming environment for everyone ✅ Reduce barriers for children at risk of social exclusion ✅ Prevent dropouts by fostering positive coaching relationships ✅ Equip coaches with tools to be mentors, not just trainers Our mission is to empower young athletes to feel valued, respected, and motivated to achieve their goals, while also creating pathways for coaches from diverse backgrounds to excel and inspire. Together, we’re building a future where sport is truly for all. How is Health-enhancing Physical Activity in the #European Union? The 2024 report, by the World Health Organization, presents the most recent data on the implementation of the Council Recommendation on #HEPA across sectors, and sport is leading the way, with every country having sport-for-all initiatives. Despite the success of the implementation of HEPA actions, engagement in sport and physical activity has been dropping, with 45% of Europeans (≥ 15 years) in 2022 reporting that they never exercised or played sports. ➡️ Read the full report at https://lnkd.in/dtnZpG3r

𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, is this October's 𝑸𝒖𝒐 𝑽𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒔, 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕? topic by Mike McClure. Mike worked in the field of outdoor and environmental education for over 20 years followed by 17 years in outdoor sports development. Mike's passion for engaging people with nature and communicating the importance of our fantastic landscapes, ecosystems and wildlife is clear in his professional path, as former vice chair of the UK and Ireland Outdoor Recreation Network, chairman of the EUROPEAN NETWORK OF OUTDOOR SPORTS (ENOS), and, since January 2024, as “Landscapes Northern Ireland Development Manager”. He is a British Canoe Union level 5 Coach and has paddled and coached extensively throughout the UK and Ireland from the Shetlands to the Channel Islands. Slow, multi-day journeying through landscapes by kayak or by bike that builds connections with nature really floats his boat! In this article, we delve into how to make sport, particularly outdoors, not only more sustainable, but to have an active role in nature restoration 🌱 Through the 𝑄𝑢𝑜 𝑉𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑠, 𝑆𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡? monthly series, we dive into the latest trends and news in the sector 🗞️

The STARS Shaping Talents and Achieving Vocational Excellence in Sports consortium met in Madrid, last week, to discuss updates and learn from sport VET good practices. One of the highlights was the engaging discussions and experiences shared, particularly on #DualCareer, a topic which is at the centre of #STARS. We had the chance to moderate a roundtable between the elite #athletes: Maria Delgado Nadal, Benedetta Scotto, Elisa Gawel, and Sergio López-Andújar Alonso (Sergio Alonso), on a unique opportunity to hear testimonials from athletes who are paving the way for professional success after sport.

What inspires #coaches and how do they maintain a positive environment with athletes? 🧢 The answers to these questions were discussed last week during the Coaching Plus meeting, in Pescara, Italy 🇮🇹, where the consortium gathered to present the research updates. Partners also discussed the #CoachingPlus online course, which will support coaches in building a positive coaching environment by teaching them different skills in communication, constructive feedback and others. This #ErasmusPlus project includes a practical component, through the Youth Camp that will enable participants to put into practice what they've learned on the online course.
