The third day of IMoH24 focused on Opportunities and Challenges for #HiCANS. The first session was opened by Erik Fernández Escudero from INEUSTAR - Spanish Science Industry Association, who presented “The Role of Industry in #HiCANS.” He highlighted the significant contributions of companies to major science projects, particularly in neutron sources and fusion, and emphasized their potential role in the construction of future #HiCANS. Erik Fernández Escudero also moderated the subsequent round table on “The Potential of Industry-Academia Collaboration in Developing Technologies for #HiCANS.” One of the speakers, Fiamma Garcia-Toriello , Head of the Management Office at ESS Bilbao, presented numerous successful cases of collaboration between ESS Bilbao and the industry over recent years. She emphasized the crucial role that industry has played, especially in European Spallation Source ERIC In-kind contribution projects, not just as suppliers but as partners. She identified trust as the key element for a successful partnership between Industry-research organizations. Marité Cárdenas Gómez from Academia linked her presentation to the new research being conducted by Fundación Biofísica Bizkaia / Biofisika Bizkaia Fundazioa, underscoring the importance of continuing to face challenges collectively to advance research in previously unattainable areas. Industry representatives Pedro Noguera Crespo from AVS Added Value Solutions and Peter Böni from SwissNeutronics AG shared their experiences, both stressing the importance of early industry involvement in early phases of complex science projects to collaboratively address and prevent technical issues and delays in later stages. All participants emphasized the importance of creating an ecosystem where science and industry are intertwined, fostering innovation and economic growth. Finally, the significance of industry involvement as future users of neutrons in #HiCANS was also highlighted.
