🌿 Extracting silica from Rice Husk Ash Study at the University of Seville 🌿 We are thrilled to announce that MSc. Dianet Camejo Rodríguez and MSc. Milianys Pérez Reyes, researchers in training from the “Estación Experimental de Pastos y Forrajes Indio Hatuey, Universidad de Matanzas ” at the University of Matanzas, #Cuba 🇨🇺, are currently undertaking a research stay at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in #Seville, #Spain 🇪🇸. Working closely with Dr. A. Rabdel Ruiz-Salvador and the dedicated team from the Department of Physical, Chemical, and Natural Systems, they are focusing on extracting silica from rice husk ash and synthesizing multifunctional composite materials based on zeolites. This research aims to utilize these composites as catalysts for environmental remediation and bioenergy applications, such as biodiesel production. This collaboration is a significant step forward for the VALZEO project, emphasizing the valorization of agro-industrial wastes and advancing sustainable development. Recientemente realicé la presentación de mi Trabajo Final de Grado “Optimization of silica extraction procedures for revalorization of rice husk ashes”, que forma parte del proyecto VALZEO.EU (HORIZON-MSCA-2021-SE-01, GA. 101086354) en el que he trabajado durante todo este curso, donde he conseguido plasmar todos los conocimientos adquiridos durante la carrera, acercándome al mundo de la investigación gracias a los excelentes científicos del GTS. Quiero agradecer enormemente la labor de mi tutor, el Dr. Roberto Boada, por asesorar y ayudarme en todo momento, a HanWen por asesorarme en el laboratorio y a Anadelfa por siempre echarme una mano.

🌟 🔥Late June seems relatively hot, but VALZEO achievements cool the atmosphere!🌧 Exciting news from VALZEO! 🌱🔬🤞 Today, the VALZEO project reached a significant milestone during its mid-term review meeting at the Universitat Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona [ UAB]. Let’s dive into the highlights: 🌿 Project Overview: VALZEO focuses on transforming rice husk ashes (RHAs) into valuable composite materials. These materials, based on hierarchical zeolites modified by metal oxide nanoparticles (MONs) and metal-organic framework (MOF) materials, serve a dual purpose: 💦Water Treatment: Removing pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, and microorganisms from water. 👩🔬🧫Biofuel Production: Catalytic biodiesel production. 🌎 Key Meeting Highlights: 🤝 Our Partners from Spain, Italy, Ireland, and Cuba collaborated to discuss project progress. ✈️ Secondment implementation, risk assessment, and ethical considerations were addressed. 📂Work Package leaders reported on raw material characterization and functional material development. ✳️ Impact activities, including dissemination and communication, took center stage. 🧑🔬👩🔬Researchers shared positive experiences gained during secondments. 🚀 Next Steps: On June 27, 2024, the team will revise deliverables, plan tasks, and discuss secondments for 2025.
