A recent study revealed a concerning trend: Finnish ninth graders are losing faith in school. Many students struggle to see the relevance of their studies and feel disengaged. While this study focused on Finland, similar trends are being observed globally. We should rethink what and how we teach. Checking facts online and asking ChatGPT to write essays has become very easy. Education should inspire curiosity and creativity, feel meaningful, and equip students with the skills machines don't have. We also need to find ways to restore students' confidence that education will genuinely help them in life. In my view, this requires small enough class sizes so that teachers can truly engage with and support their students. Learning methods should be engaging, and topics should feel relevant. Students must see that what they are learning is meaningful to them. Professor Vainikainen who led the study says it well: "Without engagement, even the best educational strategies will have limited impact”. What are your thoughts? Just thought to share this article where Epaper TimesofIndia highlights that the Indian education system needs to be transformed, if not reformed! I have been working with HEI Schools for more than a year now. During this time, I have been in contact with many school owners, principals, and scholars from India. Most of them are looking for something unique and more practical, but the traditional approach is still deeply rooted in the system. I have completed my education in India but have also taken courses in education in Finland. One thing I have learned is that practical education is what we truly needs. Especially in the early years, when their minds and skills are still developing, children should have the freedom to play, learn creativity, solve problems, cooperate with friends, share, collaborate, and think critically. We lack creativity. We lack calmness. Let’s give wings to our little ones so they can fly in the sky of creativity.

Last Saturday, we had a wonderful time at the HEI Open House, showcasing “The Finnish Approach to Life-Long Learning” with insights from our Head of School, Lizzie, and Chief of Pedagogy and Curriculum, Dr. Eg. It was a fantastic opportunity for parents to meet our dedicated teaching team and experience our learning environment firsthand. We highlighted how we integrate Finnish early childhood education into our daily routines. The children enjoyed engaging activities with “Earth’s Treasure,” learning about dinosaurs, and creating beautiful nature art from leaves. 🍃🦖 Thank you to everyone who joined us! We loved sharing how we nurture our future lifelong learners at HEI.
