When "Natalie, will you marry me?" popped up in a SAR satellite image captured 540 km up in space, the ICEYE team had to take a closer look. Research partner Dr. Heather McNairn from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada/ Agriculture et Agroalimentaire Canada and her team (Omar Gaweesh, Sam Schultz, Xianfeng Jiao) have been working to develop a method that would use radar satellites to detect when farmers till their fields – an important topic in climate studies, since tillage can have a significant impact on soil CO2 emissions. The ICEYE team were keen to support their research by contributing rapid-revisit SAR data to help provide insight into crop monitoring. Dr. McNairn sent ICEYErs Michael Wollersheim and Qiaoping Zhang an image of what appeared to be a message in Mark Nyentap's field in Ontario, Canada. That image was no normal picture from space. It was a coherence map made from two separate 1m resolution 15km x 15km SAR satellite images taken from the ICEYE fleet on two different days. • From introducing a powerful partnership with SATIM, to sharing situation report insights with high-profile geospatial operators, the ICEYE team had a successful Defense Geospatial Intelligence (#DGI2025) conference. Among the many topics discussed with the global geospatial intelligence community were: - why SAR is the only solution for day/night, all-weather imaging - how high revisit rates and rapid delivery can unlock tactical applications - how Dwell mode imagery can be used for identifying possible armor under tree canopy - why SAR imagery, unlike optical, is not blocked by cloud cover We would like to thank all who visited our booth, and DGI - Defence Geospatial Intelligence for arranging yet another exceptional event in London.

France is facing one of its most challenging periods of flood-related losses, with recent events like Storm Henk and the October 2024 floods driving insured losses into the billions. As nearly half of these losses are carried by private insurers — and new regulations like the Baudu Law imposing stricter claims deadlines — fast, accurate flood response has never been more critical. "Having near real-time flood data on extent and depth at the building level means every decision is based on an on-the-ground understanding of how the flood is developing," explains Anke Sielker, our Head of Insurance, Europe and Middle East. Read more on how ICEYE is helping insurers navigate this growing challenge in a new interview with Commercial Risk Europe: https://hubs.li/Q0367T0z0 📷 Flood mapping carried out by ICEYE between November 2023 and January 2025. #insurance #flood

Yesterday, ICEYE hosted a roundtable at #AMRAE2025 in Deauville, France addressing the primary issues for the French insurance market of managing the country’s rising flood challenge. Leading figures from across the sector joined Anke Sielker and Mirka Vahtera in a critical debate on current flood-related market pressures, the challenges of managing claims surges, the increasing importance of real-time data, and the market need for a public/private solution. Thank you to all who participated – Allianz France, Marsh, AXA Digital Commercial Platform, Guy Carpenter France, FM Global, HDI Global SE – and to Commercial Risk Europe for facilitating such an important discussion.
