  • We’re out here digging, working every day, Where bright lights shine and keep danger away.
Out in the dark, where the frost bites deep
Still the job gets done, no time for sleep We cherish the seasons, but this one’s supreme,
In the wintery landscape, life feels like a dream.
How can we thrive in the chill and the snow?
Gather family and friends, and watch the love grow.  Season’s greetings and a bright new year from your friends at Nordic Lights! ⭐️

  • Tip of the day: Color temperature!  There is a common misconception that illumination with a colder color temperature (higher Kelvin) is always better because it is perceived by the human eye as brighter. However, when you get into visually demanding territory, that might not always be the case.  When working in dust, rain, fog, or snow, go for a warmer color temperature to achieve visibility that works for you, not against you.  #NordicLights #Colortemperature #CCT #LED #LightingSolutions

  • Jari Lindström joined Nordic Lights earlier this year. After many years as an entrepreneur, he now works as a technical account manager, supporting the aftermarket.  Who are you? 👀 My name is Jari Lindström, I am a married man, father of two daughters. an engineer and a long-time entrepreneur.  Where are you from? 🗺️ I was born in Kaarina, right outside of Turku. Right now, I actually live in the same house I was born in.  Have you lived elsewhere?  📍 I spent six years in China, and a year abroad in Cardiff, Wales, during my engineering studies.   What do you do at Nordic Lights?  💡 I am a technical account manager. My job is to support the aftermarket and especially with focus on the mining sector. I started in the spring of 2024 and have really enjoyed my role here so far. I’ve always said that there are two ways to make a living: you either become an expert in a pin-pointed subject, or a jack-of-many-trades. I like to think of myself as the latter. I know something about a lot of different things.  What is your job like? 🙌 My main task is to look at the needs of the customer at hand and offer the optimal solution to the issues they are having. In the end, I work with both the R&D and Sales departments, and by utilizing our combined knowledge we come up with a fix that solves the issue.   What is your scholarly background? 👨🎓 I have a degree in electrical engineering from Porin Tekninen Oppilaitos.   Your job includes some travelling. What is the last place you visited?  👋 My most recent long-distance journey was a combined USA - Canada trip back when we were exhibiting at MINExpo. After checking out the trade fair, I went to visit distributors and customers in North America. What do you do on a long flight? ✈️ That’s a good question. For some reason, I can never sleep on a plane. If I’m not getting some work done, then I’m probably watching a movie or reading a book.  Favorite airport? 🛫 I’d say Dallas International Airport, it’s a great hub with connections to places all over the world.  Stay safe on your travels, Jari! We wish you many bright ideas to come 😊  #NordicLights #People #LightingSolutions

  • Carl-Anton Manns has a history of 13 years at Nordic Lights. These days, his responsibilities are found in supplier development. Who are you?  👀 I’m Carl-Anton Manns, a happy exerciser in his “middle ages.”  What is your role at Nordic Lights? 💡 I started in 2011 at the R&D department and worked as a test engineer for about 10 years. For the last three years my role is as supplier development engineer. What is your background?  🔬 I have a degree in laboratory science from the Swedish polytechnic school in Vasa, specializing in testing and laboratory technology. After I got my degree, I worked for almost 10 years in the paper industry, mainly as a supervisor. Eventually I made my way to Nordic Lights.  What is your feeling of the company?  🙌 I feel like Nordic Lights is a company where you are allowed to take responsibility and bring your own ideas to the table. During my time here we have developed our own testing standards and ways of working a lot. I took part in starting up the vibration lab, the CT scanner, etc. It’s a great opportunity when a company gives you the option to continuously improve your knowledge and evolve as a professional.  What do you find most interesting in your current role?  🥽 By far learning about the different processes used by our suppliers to manufacture the components for our lights, like die casting, injection moulding, technical glass manufacturing. I could go on. It’s impossible to learn about everything on a deep level, but I can ask for help from colleagues and R&D when there is a specific technical aspect that we need better understanding of. What’s on your professional bucket list? 🎯 I still haven’t decided what I want to be “when I grow up”, so kind of hard to answer. I have always been open to learning new things, so we’ll see where that takes me.  What is your latest success?  🔥 A few weeks ago, we finished the development of two modules for our new supplier portal, where we collaborated with colleagues and the company providing the portal itself. By combining the knowledge found in our different departments, we succeeded in creating something which we think will be very useful for everyone using it.  How do you relax after an intense week?  🌲 I’m either out trail running or doing something else like fishing in nature. I exercise a lot every week and like to do ultra-marathons.   Strangest thing you’ve seen on the trail?  🐻 Zombies. Not literally, but runners looking like zombies, especially those doing the really long distances. If you pass them and cheer them on, you usually get just a grunt back. Cheers Carl-Anton, keep up the good work! ⭐️ #NordicLights #People #SupplierDevelopment

  • Milka Aho is the procurement manager at Nordic Lights. Together with her team, she takes care of the procurement process. Who are you? 👋 I’m Milka. I’m a naturally curious person who always wants to learn new stuff. I’m talkative, social, and interested in people. I think that’s a pretty good description of who I am on a personal level. What do you do at Nordic Lights? 💡 I’m in charge of procurement, supplier quality and incoming logistics. Why did you want to work in procurement? 📦 You never know what the day will bring, and you get to have an active role in the success and development of the business. There are many stakeholders in the procurement process, meaning that you need to work to find common solutions and put your social skills to the test. What’s the biggest challenge in your role? 🎯 To find that one solution which works for everyone involved. What’s most rewarding? 🏅 What I enjoy most is creating and nurturing relationships with different people. There is an immense richness in getting to hear different opinions on the same matter. It’s also very rewarding when we as a team figure out new ways to do things, and to see those results which we worked towards manifest themselves. What do you do outside of work? 🚴🏽♀️ I’m an endurance sport “freak”. Like triathlon – swimming, cycling, running. Ever since a kid I have been active in sports and competed. What has that taught you? ⛰️ It has given me a sense of determination and perseverance. If you fail - get back up and take another shot at it! What’s a piece of career advice you would give your younger self? 🥁 Don’t stress so much and trust your own competence. You don’t always have to one-up yourself, as long as you try your best. When did you last feel pride? 🪅 I’m really proud of what we have done during the last two years with my team. We can see that the plans and processes we made during this time have materialized in a very tangible way. Last question, what is the best movie ever? 📹 A movie which really affected me is “The Green Mile”. Thanks Milka, keep on rocking! 😎 #NordicLights #Procurement #People
