🌐 Today, we are celebrating #SaferInternetDay2025! With the advancement of technology, online child sexual abuse (OCSAE) has grown explosively worldwide. Based on Protect Children's innovative research, we are sharing actionable recommendations for the tech industry to tackle OCSAE: 💻 Build and develop platforms with a children's rights-by-design approach 📖 Ensure availability and accessibility of online safety resources and information for children 🔎 Effectively detect, report, and remove CSAM and combat sexual violence against children online 👩💻 Implement deterrence and perpetration prevention measures 🔒 Ensure robust and proportionate age assurance measures Learn more: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/demCvKq8 📢 While the tech industry must step up their efforts to keep children #safeonline, we must remember that all actors have a responsibility to address child sexual abuse. 📢 Sexual violence against children is a crime against the whole family. 🎇 Last week, at the 2KNOW Final Conference in Brussels, our Executive Director Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen and Senior Specialist Katariina Leivo shared their experience of facilitating the You are Enough™ peer support groups for parents whose children have fallen victim to online sexual violence (OCSEA). Our specialists presented the results of the groups' evaluation, revealing: 🔹 Parental peer support improved the well-being of both parents and their children. 🔹 The child victim’s symptoms closely mirror the parent's own symptoms of trauma, which highlights the importance of support being offered to the whole family. 🔔 There is an urgent need to tackle #OCSEA, acknowledge its far-reaching impact, and enhance support systems for families. 🎇 This week marked a significant milestone in our work to #protectchildren from online sexual violence. 🙌 We hosted the Project #2KNOW Final Conference at the European Parliament, bringing together experts, policymakers, and researchers to turn knowledge into action. 💡 We were thrilled to welcome over 350 participants from at least 36 countries. 🔔 As highlighted in the conference, we have to act now. Online crimes of sexual violence against children have reached an unimaginable scale. They can impose severe, long-lasting consequences on the victim and affect the entire family. In the conference, Executive Director at Protect Children, Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen, cited a survivor of childhood sexual violence: "My safety was stolen. My worth was stolen. My innocence was stolen. My trust was stolen. My childhood was stolen. My right to develop normally was stolen. My roots were stolen. My body was stolen. My sexuality was stolen. And someone—some adult—benefited from it all, at my expense. My life was stolen from me." 👉 It is time to acknowledge the gravity of online crimes of sexual violence against children. Online child sexual abuse is just as serious as contact crimes. Online environment, as any other spaces where children spend their time, must be thoroughly regulated and made safe. 💚 We would like to extend our immense gratitude to our co-hosts, Emilio Puccio and MEP Merja Kyllönen; to our esteemed keynote speaker, Henna Virkkunen; to MEP Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová, MEP Evin I., and Antonio Labrador Jimenez; to expert speakers, Emily Slifer, Laura Daoud, and Hanna Lahtinen.
