We had a call with Juan Ramos who's been experiencing A LOT of bugs in reconfigured (hence Niko's recent rants about Windows), and I forced myself to ask him "why do you keep coming back?" 😅 Long story short, he felt that even with the bugs, the app provides something other tools don't. Which is heartwarming for us, but a major 🆘 to get things fixed. For every person that vocalizes issues, I bet there's at least 10 more who just skip town - which is more than fair. We are very lucky to have people in the app who proactively come to us when something pisses them off. 🫶 And we're more than ready to jump on a call to try to figure it out. No AI chatbots or feedback forms, just a direct line to yell at us via chat. In this case, a quick screenshare showed us that the database was getting locked, luckily no data was going missing. 😅 I'd love to say "head over to reconf for an immediately smooth experience" but truth is the product is very early (started in August), and there's gonna be many bumps along the way. We are very lucky to have folks that feel like it's worth enduring for. ❤️ -- #productivity

This week's reconfigured product update is all about chats 😅 We had perhaps our biggest feature release this week with the Archivist chat. And now one can chat with the whole journal database of the organization! Forgot where you stashed that one note? Don't worry, Archivist will help you find it! Very nice! And another big one landing to the app soon is the ability to use both in quest chat and archivist chat directly from the sidekick window! Chatting with your previous thoughts and notes and such has never been easier! What should I build next? Improve the chat's data management to give even better answers? Add (optional) web search to the chat? Expose journal data as MCP server? Make reconfigured it self a MCP client? Better top level view for quests? AARGH! So many things to build, so few fingers.

Where do y'all think this whole AI Agent ecosystem is going? The way we see it, it's going to be a ecosystem vs. one mega agent. From Niko's writeup a few days ago: "The world will not be just one AI agent to rule them all, it is going to be ecosystem. There will be multiple AI agents; standalone AI tools, AI agents integrated to existing tools, API only AI agents, different UI's for controlling and interacting with them. There are similarities with the SaaS wave, each SaaS tool exposes their data via REST API's. Similarly in coming AI agent ecosystem different tools will expose their data and capabilities via integrations." and the challenge is going to be how can we (users but also vendors) provide data and capabilities between agents efficiently. Or more specifically, context. We're already seeing some cool trends in reconfigured: Users exporting their journal entries into Claude, which acts as a personal project/product manager. Helping to figure what's important, what to focus on, building schedules. For now that transfer is manual, but we intend to make it easier. Via API, direct integrations, time will tell. I can only imagine there's a similar case to be made in code generation. Especially with a few recent posts mentioning that once a ai generated coding project becomes big enough, the LLM starts forgetting important bits. 🤔 #ai

Exactly a year ago Niko and I realized that reconfigured v1 didn't have a future. And today, seems like we've made another pivot. At least that's what some of y'all have been calling it. 😄   A short recap of what has happened in the last year before I intro our new story: - February: pulled the plug, started from 0 - March/April: interviewed +100 data professionals - May-June: Tried selling a variety of ideas (including a "slack spyware" lol) - July: Sat at a lake and joked about turning video game journals into SaaS - August: Sold our first case. Started working on a journal for analysts - September-December: Launched, built, first 80 users in. - January: Almost 300 users, Top 10 on product hunt and other roles flocking in As more roles (marketers, UX designers, product folks) joined, we realized this wasn’t just a problem for data analysts, but a problem for analytical people in general. And by this problem, I mean that knowledge is created faster than it’s captured. The second part of the problem is recall: It’s great to write things down, but if you can’t find (or be presented with) that information when you need it, what’s the point? That’s what this new narrative is about. The product vision remains the same, but we’ve learned a few things along the way: a) Journaling for work actually works. 😅 b) The less time you spend organizing notes, the better. c) AI is really good at working with structured, timestamped, and labeled context. d) There's still so much pavement for us to work through. For now, we’re focusing on making the best damn experience for every user. Just two days ago, we released a feature that lets you chat with your ENTIRE journal, NOT just a single topic.  🤯 So yeah, both scary and exciting times ahead (but when hasn’t it been?). My personal, obvious fear is that broadening our ICP is a classic founder blunder. We added new massive pro feature to reconfigured app! One can now add multiple quests into the chat context! Especially it you're running with a team, being able to chat across multiple quests to find out patterns is massive win. Like go nuts! Add all the quests into the context and chat with the whole thoughts of the team! But don't worry, the core app will continue being free and the basic AI functionalities continue working as they have. Only these advanced AI features we're bringing are things that require you to pull out (company) credit card. And this is just the beginning! Lot of new stuff brewing! Past days I've had fun (and "fun") time with CRDT's, async Rust, events, file IO and networks 🤓 Rust is fun and I feel productive, but the god damn feedback loop from save to seeing errors on editor is killing me 😅 Anyhow, here's latest product update video. We've added small goodies to the app like being able to format links and having the possibility to paste images and files directly. Now I'll go and do some AI work to make the app smarter 🧑💻

A service-outage email so heart-felt I momentarily forgot this was from us, reconfigured. 😱 Jokes aside - we had a bigger bug in our system that occasionally caused quest data to be not saved. Which is a major no no since ease of logging is the main value proposition. 😬 Issue has now been resolved, but the lost data can never be retrieved. 🥲 For that we are extremely sorry.
