Château Angelus

Vins et spiritueux

Château Angelus is the work of a passion that has existed for 8 generations in de Boüard de Laforest family.

À propos

The vineyard of Château Angelus is situated in a natural amphitheatre overlooked by the three Saint-Emilion churches. In the middle of this special site, the sounds were amplified and the angelus bells could be heard ringing in the morning, at midday and in the evening. They cadenced the working day in the vineyards and villages, calling the men and women to stop their labours for a few minutes and pray. Less than a kilometre from the famous Saint-Emilion bell tower, situated on the much-vaunted south-facing “foot of the hill”, Angelus has been the life work of eight generations of the Boüard de Laforest family. In the first-ever classification of Saint-Emilion wines in 1954, Château Angelus was a Grand Cru Classé. Already at the time, it benefitted from a solid reputation, which helped it survive the Bordeaux wine crisis of 1973 and take part in the oenological renewal of the 1980’s. This was the context in which Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, a graduate oenologist from Bordeaux University, took advantage of this marvellous wine’s illustrious past, while being resolutely turned towards the future and launched and continued to implement an ambitious, innovative policy in favour of achieving excellence in wine growing and making. Angelus is henceforward helmed by Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal. She represents the eighth generation of the Boüard de Laforest family. After Catherine Sophie de Boüard de Laforest and Eugénie Chatenet, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal is the third woman to preside over the fortunes of this estate, where she was born and grew up. She has an almost physical relationship with Angelus, living with the land and drawing from it the courage and determination she needs to keep on course. It gives her emotional and spiritual strength, and she sees herself as an integral part of this ecosystemic whole.

- Château Angelus 2022, "Le Majestueux" A stellar vintage After 24 months of development and ageing, the 2022 vintage is now available from our traders. By virtue of its exceptional quality, “Le Majestueux” is already destined to be remembered as a brilliant cuvée. That it was also produced from the 2022 vintage – a seminal moment in the history of Angelus – called for a tribute worthy of a new planetary alignment and the immeasurable scale of this extraordinary wine. The motifs, a blazing sun in the night sky, anchored by two ellipses that emphasise and celebrate its splendour, poetically evoke the transition from a closed world to an infinite universe. They illustrate the aspiration towards magnificence that propels Château Angelus to greater heights. #Angelus #ChateauAngelus #Millesime2022 #LeMajestueux

- Harvest 2024 – The end of a chapter These last weeks, Angelus has lived to the rhythm of the Harvest. 2024 brings the 40th vintage produced by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest. He has a taste for adversity and challenge, two powerful motivators that historically have allowed Angelus to produce truly great wines. A special thank to our teams of vignerons, pickers and winemakers for their rigour and commitment! #ChateauAngelus #Angelus #SaintEmilion #Vendanges

Château Angelus unveils the bottle of its 2022 vintage From the first tastings, the 2022 vintage of Château Angelus took its place among the most successful vintages the estate has ever seen. Named “Le Majestueux”, this new vintage literally rubs shoulders with the stars since its outstanding characteristics propel it into another domain, an unparalleled one. This exceptional vintage required a worthy showcase: a precious bottle representing a stellar revolution with the heavenly vault as a backdrop. In February, this unique creation was unveiled in Paris and London by Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, Chairwoman of Angelus. #ChateauAngelus #Angelus #SaintEmilion #LeMajestueux
