DMSLOG Contributes to Smart Port Discussion at #PEIC_2024 Congress Last week, Xavier Des Minières, CEO of DMSLOG, joined fellow TIC 4.0 members at the #PEIC_2024 Congress in Valencia to share our vision for smart port transformation. He presented to an audience of maritime experts and leaders, focusing on the crucial role of AI and data standardization in optimizing port operations and promoting modal shift for smoother, cleaner, and more efficient ports. Key topics discussed included: Data normalization: Establishing common standards for data exchange to facilitate interoperability and collaboration between different port stakeholders. AI applications: Leveraging AI for predictive analytics, intelligent automation, and optimized decision-making in port operations. Modal shift strategies: Implementing AI-powered solutions to encourage the use of rail and inland waterways for cargo transport, reducing congestion and emissions. A big thank you to Fundación Valenciaport and Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia for organizing this major event and for the opportunity to share the stage with other key players in port innovation like TIC 4.0, NextPort.AI and HHLA Next. 🏗️ How have the largest container terminal operators evolved? Let's take a look!   1️⃣ In the 1980s, most container terminals were operated by public companies. But by the 1990s, privatization took off, leading to the rise of major global terminal operators (GTOs). By the early 2000s, PSA (Singapore), Hutchison (Hong Kong), and APMT (Netherlands) had become the top three GTOs, each handling over 25 million TEU by 2005.   2️⃣ In 2005, DP World (Dubai) joined the ranks, becoming the 4th major GTO after acquiring P&O Ports. For the next decade, PSA and Hutchison continued to lead, with APMT and DP World closely behind, each handling over 35 million TEU annually.   3️⃣ By 2015, Chinese operators COSCO and CM Ports joined and climbed the ranks, becoming the 2nd and 3rd largest global players by the early 2020s.   4️⃣ Today, 7 major GTO's handle more than 40 million TEU each annually. MSC (Swiss) is the most recent that joined the >40 million TEU ranks, taking the 7th spot.   5️⃣ Beyond the top 7, many operators handle around 10 million TEU per year, often focusing on specific regions or just beginning a growth journey.   🔍 What’s your view on the future of container terminal operators? The event brought together experts from across the globe to discuss the latest innovations in the port industry. Key discussions centered on private #5G networks, #decarbonization, and the correct use of #data in #portoperations. I had the pleasure of engaging with several forward-thinking people yesterday: Adriaan Landman from AllRead discussed their automatic recognition technology. In a conversation with Starr Long and Kjell Kolstad from The Acceleration Agency, we explored cooperation on an idea which we will transform in reality.
