NEW EPISODE! This is a MUST LISTEN for anyone who is serious about the way #education should be responding the various crises that we are facing as a species! Zachary Stein and Mary Helen Immordino-Yang, EdD are two of the most important voices calling for fundamental transformations in education. With Tim Logan they take both philosophical and neuroscientific perspectives on: 🌱 Education’s responsibility as a cause of the youth mental health crisis 🌱 The need to focus on transcendent thinking and #humandevelopment rather than learning outcomes in our schooling systems 🌱 The importance of #intergenerational collaboration and meaningful work 🌱 The impact of the digital, social media, advertising and AI 🌱 Critical shifts in the way that we do assessment Zak and Mary Helen originally met at Harvard Graduate School of Education on the Mind, Brain and Education programme with the legendary Kurt Fischer. It is a privilege to be able to reunite them here! 🎧🎧🎧 Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eZy_bijU University of Southern California Candle USC Rebecca Gotlieb, Ph.D. Rodrigo Riveros Miranda Daniel Schmachtenberger Theo Dawson Sages & Seekers Elly Katz

An inquiry into the vital role that education will play in navigating the complex times we are all living in.
À propos
We are stuck in an old paradigm, with institutional structures that control and define our lived experience, built for a world that no longer exists. Within education, passionate entrepreneurs and committed citizens are no longer waiting for these broken formal institutions to be reformed. All over the world, they are designing and building their own local responses with relationships at their core. These are the education ecosystems that our young people need and out of which new institutions will emerge. This podcast is an inquiry into these fundamental changes and an invitation to you to join the movement to help drive positive change.

NEW EPISODE! Young people are #worldmakers... if we give them the space to be! They are being called on to completely rebuild crumbling systems. And they will need our help, for sure (and it's the least we can do, given the mess we have created!). But what if the best education we can given them is the space, opportunity and support to challenge the current systems? The incredible Zineb Mouhyi is doing precisely this with YouthxYouth and (created with her co-founder, Valentina Raman) and with her community of practice at The Weaving Lab. This was a beautiful conversation, where the focus is very much on #living the challenge and the alternative by centring learning #relationships in different ways, rather than performing rhetorical radicalism as Zineb says, it "will be in the flowering of the everyday"! Thank you Zineb for everything you are doing to inspire this! Check out the full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/eZNFq6XD with lots of links to YouthxYouth's applications if you know a young person who would benefit from getting involved.

It’s a Toby Lowe kinda week for me, it seems. It was wonderful to be alongside Toby for a conversation with Tim Logan and his Future Learning Design podcast. We discuss (amongst other things): - The culture of risk aversion in the public service and how this can get in the way of focusing on the work that’s needed. - The importance of taking a humble and systems informed approach to tackling complex challenges. - The role of certainty artefacts in helping us navigate complexity. https://lnkd.in/gPbFvKPG

NEW EPISODE! Have you ever wondered why your #performancemanagement targets or #KPIs feel so disconnected from the beautiful complexity of your actual life and work? Or noticed that the top-down delivery of outcomes (as though they were nice neat linear 'recipes') just doesn't work?! There IS another way, and it is part of a radically different but very necessary approach to management and governance. Check out this week's fantastic conversation with Thea Snow and Toby Lowe to find out more about the #humanlearningsystems approach that 🌳 takes complexity seriously ❤️ puts learning at its heart 🙏 and, most importantly, trusts people! https://lnkd.in/e7g8NwZx

NEW EPISODE! We have been taught to think that we live in our head... 🤯 But we are 🧠 🏃 🌳 systems!! Certain dominant stories from psychology (and philosophy) have defined how schools 'should' look and how education 'should' happen. But they're NOT the whole story!! Far from it! Vicente Raja and Miguel Segundo Ortin from the University of Murcia, among many other amazing #ecological psychologists, are reshaping the narrative about what it means to be a human learning in the world! We are ecologies exploring ecologies, systems exploring systems! This isn't just poetry and philosophy it's also robust peer-reviewed experimental science. But it doesn't play well into the #control narratives of our current institutional structures! Check out the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/e4NUwjNw

NEW EPISODE! In the face of the #ai onslaught, how do we protect those spaces for human learning relationships to be built and nurtured? Inefficient and proud!! And yet, how do we also move away from the toxic efficiencies of classrooms as simply information transmission process?! With his new book coming out TODAY 👏, we are so happy to share this fantastic conversation with Robert Barnett from Modern Classrooms Project! https://lnkd.in/erXBHKrz

If what our culture most urgently needs is for a critical mass of us to grow into adults and then elders, how can we help our young people to step beyond the artificial boundaries of our old, rigid system into a world where they are fully connected to all parts of themselves, each other and the web of life? How, in effect, can we create an educational system that is fit for purpose in the emerging century? In this podcast, I joined with Tim Logan, host of the #FutureLearningDesign podcast, educator, part of the team at Good Impact Labs and co-leader of the International Baccalaureate’s ‘Festival of Hope’ for a deep, wide conversation on the shifting sands of our times, and how we can shape learning for young people - people of any age who need to learn - so that we're all as prepared as we can be for the transitions that are coming. Enjoy! https://lnkd.in/e3TSUVrj #RegenerativeEducation #FutureLearning #DesignforLiving

NEW EPISODE! This week is an exciting joint podcast with the AMAZING #accidentalgods podcast with Manda Scott! You may have heard Manda in conversation with Tim, Ginie Servant-Miklos, Raïsa Mirza and Will Richardson in December. This time, Tim and Manda got back together over a cup of hot tea in a cold barn to talk about bridge-building, systemic change and creating spaces for #resonance rather than optimisation! How can we just get more young people out into nature to get their hands in the dirt and listen to their bodies, to each other and to our world?! 🌳 🦅 👩👩👦 Check out the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/ed9MvC-r

Today is the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. It feels like we would do well to remember this. 👇💗 The full chapter is here: https://lnkd.in/e9pAChRK

It seems we're enamoured by lists of #futureskills in education and what our young people need to prepare them for complex and uncertain futures! How about this... 😴 Really good sleep 🧆 Delicious, nourishing food 🌳 More time in nature 🏃 Embodied activity ♥️ Loving, trustful relationships 🤝 Connection and community 💡 Inspiring adults around them, modelling humility and curiosity 📱 Less time on screens 👨🏭 Meaningful work 😆 Time to laugh 😢 Time to cry 💃 Time to dance ❓ Opportunities to explore unanswerable questions 🩵 Some structure, but not too much 🤹♂️ Lots of freedom to explore what they care about 👩👩👦 Practice at building #imperfectsolidarities with people they disagree with 🗺️ Practice at getting lost, and failing 🤗 Practice at getting found, and succeeding I'm not sure it's as hard as we sometimes make it sound! ♥️ 🌍
