🚀 Driving a circular economy of glass: a strategic collaboration between Saint-Gobain Glass and Eckersley O’Callaghan Saint-Gobain Glass and Eckersley O'Callaghan unite to accelerate the transition to low-carbon façades by increasing the recycling of post-consumer glass into new float glass. 🔹 Saint-Gobain Glass took a significant step further in 2022 by introducing ORAÉ®, the first low-carbon glass on the market and has also pioneered glass recycling for over two decades, with initiatives like Glass Forever from Saint-Gobain Glass UK and Ireland, which prevents end-of-life glass from ending up in landfills. Our facility in Eggborough, UK, plays a key role in sustainable glass production. 🔹 Eckersley O’Callaghan brings extensive expertise in circular design, enabling reuse and refurbishment of façade materials—proven through award-winning projects that minimize environmental impact. In 2024, EOC co-launched a web platform with the mission of enabling a circular economy of glass by connecting companies offering services in glass recovery and recycling. By combining our expertise, we aim to reduce embodied carbon by transforming the way glass is recovered, reused, and reintegrated into new projects. The purpose of this event was to align objectives in the region, address upcoming challenges across US and Canada, share good practices and enhance the team spirit. Within an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration, our team introduced each territory, highlighting the battles and strategies to promote our glass solutions and position Saint-Gobain Glass in the region.  As part of this event, we had the opportunity to tour the facilities of Millet Glass Industry, who kindly showed us their production capabilities to continue supporting the region and reinforcing the commitments for the development of the coated glass market in North America. This three-day trial allowed us to use 30% bio-liquid, reducing CO₂ emissions by over 80% compared to natural gas. In 2022, the Aniche plant had already achieved the world's first zero-carbon flat glass production. With this amount, one float could run from January 1st until today, operating at 100% cullet. What a gift for this special day! 🚨 Volta project milestone: inauguration day at Barevka plant! Another important milestone was achieved today: Saint-Gobain Glass and AGC Glass Europe officially inaugurated the Volta production line at the AGC Barevka plant in Teplice, Czech Republic, in the presence of local authorities, stakeholders, and representatives from both companies. This accomplishment marks a significant step forward in the production trials scheduled to take place over the next three years. The new hybrid furnace, developed by Saint-Gobain and AGC Glass Europe, will be 50% electrified and 50% powered by a combination of oxygen and gas with the goal of reducing CO₂ emissions by 75%. The Volta R&D project is funded by the Innovation Fund of the European Union*.
